Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Steffi Jeraldo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Steffi, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My debut album “My Heart and My Head” means the world to me. It’s a project I’ve work for my entire life. Songwriting and storytelling is something so close to my heart. I’ve spent many years honing my craft and coming into my own as an artist. I was fortunate to work with incredible musicians who helped me bring my songs to life beautifully. These 10 songs are a part of me. They are like a window into who I am and how I perceive the world. I could not be more proud of how this album turned out. I hope these songs will find you when you need them and find new meaning in your stories.
Steffi, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Steffi Jeraldo. I am an independent artist based in Nashville, TN. I was born and raised in a small town called Mariefred in Sweden by immigrant parents from Romania and Chile. Music has always been a passion of mine but in 2011 I took the leap of faith and moved to the US to study songwriting at Berklee College of Music. While studying in Boston, the city was shaken when tragedy struck in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings. As a response to this, I wanted to turn that grief into a place of shelter for myself and all who needed it. I wrote a song called “Song For Boston” and unexpectedly, the song went viral and got featured on CNN, The Boston Globe, NBC, and CBS. After graduating, I headed to Nashville in 2016 to expand my musical family. By reaching out and collaborating with other musicians I was not only able to work on my craft and artistry, but also support and write for and with other artists, such as Amy Lynn, Catie Offerman, Elisabeth Beckwitt and Hadley Kennary. August 26th 2022 I released my debut album “My Heart and My Head”. This album is an honest, warm expression of emotion and an earnest yearning for real, universal human connection. Mixing the styles of pop, folk and classic country, I strive to create songs that hold a space for everyone who listens.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being an artist isn’t just what I get to do for a living, it’s a part of my identity and gives me such purpose in life. Music has always inspired me and lifted me up in difficult times. To be able to hopefully give back and inspire someone else in the same way is so rewarding. I hope my songs make people feel seen, understood and less alone. Especially after the years we’ve all had to endure, music, art and storytelling can truly brighten dark spaces.
Have you ever had to pivot?
During the pandemic and when the world shut down, I wasn’t able to perform on stage anymore. Instead it gave me a chance to really focus on my songwriting. Me and my husband Brian Oakes who co-produced and mixed my album, were able to write, record and produce more music than ever before. I got to work on my album and write music for film, TV, ads and video games. It stretched me and helped me grow so much as a songwriter and artist.
