Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to DJ Swig. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
DJ, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I’ve been able to DJ since I was 9 years old. I was self-taught with some YouTube videos and older equipment that belonged to a family member.
Today, I know DJing as a form of art. Just like a painter, or a rapper. Knowing then what I know now, I would have broken the “rules” a long time ago! Art is all about bending the norms and using your creativity. My skills of persistence and multitasking were most helpful amongst my existing learning and practice journey.
At first, getting my hands on proper equipment was the biggest hardship. I remained steadfast and true to my cause until I was able to make the necessary investments and continue improving.

DJ, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Isaiah Colbert, AKA DJ Swig. I’m a 24 year old DJ born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. Music has been in my background since I can remember; from consuming a variety of genres growing up, to engineering, producing, and of course, DJing. Though I’ve practiced DJing since 9 years old, I didn’t begin making a profession out of it until 2019. Since then, I have produced over 300 events for a variety of clientele across the country. I have worked alongside celebrities such as K-Stylis and Yung Nation.
Currently, I am operating as an open-format DJ, specializing in custom weddings, school events, corporate events, and private events.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Other DJs YouTube channels and social media outlets! There are literally people out there in the same position as you that can help with tips and answer questions you may not have known you had in the first place! Using other helpful DJs as a resource is something I wish I did much earlier.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The book “Think and Grow Rich” really changed my perspective on thought patterns and the power of the mind in general. I highly recommend to anybody, not just entrepreneurs, that could benefit from understanding the benefits of constructive and positive thinking!
