Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alyssa Esquitin . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alyssa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
My very first client I got was through social media. I knew that the best ways to market was gonna be social media and of course word to mouth. Since I was very new I started with a $100 special for the first month. I learned that Instagram has a way to market within the platform and it only cost a few dollars to do a small promotion. I think I did $5 for 1 day of advertising and later that day I got a notification on my Square app that had a confirmation of an appointment and that’s how I got my very first client.
Alyssa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In 2018, I learned a little bit about permanent makeup. I got certified in microblading, which is carved hairstrokes into the skin while implementing pigment to create a hair like affect. I did it for about 6 months and eventually stopped I felt like At the time since it was so new I wasn’t liking the healed results and put it down for a while. In October of 2021 I enrolled myself into an Ombré Powder Brow course. Ombré Powder Brows is where you use a handheld machine to implement ink so soft and in a pixelated form it almost looks like makeup or the allusion of a fuller eyebrow. I fell in love with the course and from there everything just took off.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best way to engage in a bigger clientele is word to mouth and social media. I would tell my friends first starting out to repost my page and my work as well as using the paid marketing within the platforms. There would also be times I would go get my nails done and just start talking to the women next to me of what I did for living and they would engage in my social media. Handing out business cards with your information whenever you’re out whether it is at a restaurant, out for drinks, at family/friend gatherings. Also any business owners I knew I would ask if I could put my business cards in their business. As annoying and time consuming as it can be it is definitely worth it and will be the best way to gain a greater clientele.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When first starting, even if you don’t have a portfolio just post everything. Tell them what the appointment will look like, what different products you like to use. Explain the pre and post care. Even explain the contradiction for why somebody maybe isn’t eligible to get it done and why. Explain everything and id you only have one or two pictures in your portfolio post it all. When doing client’s take pictures in all angles so that when you post it doesn’t look like the same picture and person that is another great way to do that.
