We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nikki Jones. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nikki below.
Nikki, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you got your first non-friend, non-family client. Paint the picture for us so we can feel the same excitement you felt on that day.
In the process of me trying to build my personal brand I did a lot of research and outsourcing. I was trying to find the right aesthetic, the right vibe, I even felt like I needed a logo. Once I decided I needed a logo to represent me and my personal brand, I went to a freelance website I came across to look for someone to who could possibly create a logo for me. That website was called Fiverr. It’s a freelance website that pretty much anybody could sign up for (for free) and offer their services to others. I had used this site pretty frequently. Once I decided I wanted to start being consistent with creating content and growing as an influencer, the idea popped in my mind to offer services to promote other peoples products and or create UGC (user generated content). I was so excited when this thought crossed my mind. I searched for “influencers” on the website to see if there were others offering the same service. There were, but not many, which told me that there was potential for me to make money from sponsorships through Fiverr. I looked at the other influencer gigs to see what they offered and what their rates were. From there I decided what I personally was comfortable offering and made sure that I set my rates lower than theirs to hopefully help grab the attention of business owners on the site. Not much came from the first month, but eventually I had someone reach out and they purchased my services through Fiverr. I was ecstatic! Since then I’ve made a decent amount of money using that website. Although it’s not a full time gig YET there’s lots of potential and time for me to grow as a content creator.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m 24 years old and have always loved entertaining in many forms. As social media grew I saw the potential in growing a personal brand and adding a stream of income to their portfolio through creating content. It’s not easy, I’ve had to do a lot of trial and error with the type of content I make. I still am in the trial and error process to see what best fits me, but above all it’s really about discipling myself to just make some type of content. I like working with brands and products that help in day to day life. Cause fashion, beauty products, skin care products, decor, and tech gadgets. I do my best to represent products in a real, authentic way which is why I only work with brands I would genuinely use myself. What sets me apart from others is that I’m an average girl. Just like I brand myself. I work regular jobs, not a professional at any one thing. I’m relatable. I’m proud of my work ethic and determination to grow in myself and my craft. I wasn’t my clients to know I genuinely want to do a good job at representing their products. And I want my following to know that I am trying my absolute best to stay true and real to myself on a platform that can easily represent the opposite.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I have always envisioned living my life financially free. I have also envisioned living my life as someone in the public eye being represented in a positive way. I can’t picture my life any other way and that in itself motivates me to keep trying and pushing. I may change how I do things, or how I think I should get there, but no matter what, the end goal is what really pushes me to keep going. I have no plan B for how I want to live my life other than successful.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Consistency. The more I commit, the more people recognize what I do and how I can help them or others. When I continued to create content in a specific niche, or to promote products, people would sometimes pass along my information to others who they think I could help.
