We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yolonda Habimana a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Yolonda, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
We live in Frisco, Texas and thought that by naming our company ‘Frisco Doodles’ it would be an easy way to let customers know what city we were located in.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always had a love for dogs. In college I majored in Computer Science and became an IT professional. In my spare time, I would volunteer with the local dog shelters. As much as I enjoy working in IT, it doesn’t bring me as much joy as spending my time with dogs. After a discussion with my husband I decided that becoming a responsible dog breeder would be a great new career for me. Building a great business that’s sustainable takes time, therefore I started my business now, while still maintaining my full-time job. Once I’m ready to retire from Corporate America my business should be built up enough to be operated full-time.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My husband is my business partner and our two children work part-time in our home based business.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My current doodle families are my best advertisement for new business. When they walk their beautiful dogs in their neighborhood, people are always asking them where did they purchase their puppy from.
