We were lucky to catch up with Justin Lane recently and have shared our conversation below.
Justin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Back in 2019, I dropped out of college and I wanted try a new career for myself but I had no idea where to start. I stepped out to the local jacksonville music scene because one of my best friends “Tre Hall” is a rapper who wanted me to help promote his music and be in his music videos. If I could support tre and be successful as a promoter and actor I had to reinvent myself as “Justin ImFamous”. After meeting some amazing talented creatives in my city who had big dreams of being superstars like me, I realized I wanted to officially put myself out thee not just as a promoter and actor but instead to venture more into modeling, content creating, hosting because they were passions i didn’t know i had to be in front of camera or being in front of a hyped crowd chanting for a wonderful I’m hosting that night.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
As a young ambitious kid growing up i always felt underappreciated, underestimated, overlooked and not really seen by alot of people. I’m not the biggest, strongest, fastest or smartest guy in the room but I knew I was different. I never quite fit in with any particular group of people not even within I felt like I wasn’t in their world. No one I personally knew had the same interests or passions I had such cartoons, movies, anime, action figures or comic books. Everyone liked sports, name brand fashion, or things and people I couldn’t relate with. But I always wanted a role model in society that personally reminded me of me. Just an average guy who became famous and well known just for being himself without people telling him what or who he should be. “Justin I’mFamous” originally came from a joke/pick up line i used in 2019, and for some unknown reason it just stuck with me because I loved how it sounded and I wanted to use it as my official stage name also due to the fact that no one else had a unique name as “I’m Famous”. My biggest inspirations are “Logic” and “Kanye West” because as creatives and individuals they have fashion style, original amazing ideas and their charisma/attitude are things I want to strive for in my own way. Just how they followed their own paths in music brought them the life they always and it pushed me more knowing they did it so can I. I created “BeOnTheLookout” as a platform to provide those with any talent to help bring them to the world stage with me as the next big star. I’m most proud of being a leader and influence in my city because i’m not just promoting, acting, modeling or creating events for myself but to help my friends and family who are on this journey with me like Tre hall, Jeremy ryan and his siblings Jada, Jordan, Jon, Josh, Malcolm, Quinn, Kaylin, Dylan, Kamai, Ebony Payne-English, Adam madrid, Jason, Kyle dorrell and so many others who have put there faith, trust and belief in me to succeed so i can’t fail them or myself now.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part is seeing how of a change or effect you can have on your personal life and the life’s of others. Just hearing the kind words and seeing the genuine reactions of people watching my content gives me a sense of joy just knowing that my photoshoots or my video roles or my social media content makes someones day filled with laughter or enjoyment. And by people enjoying my content, liking it, and resharing it opens so many doors and opportunities to be discovered online by film makers, more popular social media influencers and paying model gigs who want to work. it’s rewarding to know that my content can actually reach people in a positive way and can elevate me into big industry projects based my ideas is really encouraging to never give up on myself because I have people in the city who look up to me.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Honestly I wish I had started “Justin I’mFamous” in middle or high school. If I had used social media efficiently back then as I do now in my current mid 20’s, I probably might have been a social media star by now with how fast and successful more younger influencers can be if they post their daily school, work or even home life’s on social media platforms. If I caught on to youtube, tiktok, instagram, vine when all the stars got discovered, I might be in afew Netflix or Hulu shows/movies by now.
I wish I knew earlier about self love, and how loving yourself can greatly change how you see and experience your life. Loving and believing in yourself was something I didn’t realize i neglected myself for a long time in my younger life because I didn’t see it necessary to mentally take care of myself. But living your life instead of just being alive was the greatest lesson I ever learned because its freed my mind and spirit to not worry about peoples opinions anymore about what I should do or how I should look or talk or act. Just “Being Yourself” saved me and hopefully those same words can help someone else achieve their dreams by living to the fullest, enjoying life, and most of all finding their joy and self worth.
