We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yana Cooper a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Yana, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
There is no one good answer to this question. Good ideas come from your mind, feelings, emotions and from your heart. Sometime I would get inspired by looking at another artists work. Now that does not mean that I am trying to recreate what has already been created. Usually what would happen is things like colors would get my attention and they will remind me of something and i will just see this picture in my head that I would want to create! Other things would be clothing, accessories, poses and even faces!
Yana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always loved visual arts. Especially paintings, film making, architecture, crafts and of course photography. Ever since I was a kid I always had a camera in my bag and I was always that one kid who took pictures of everyone but I did not get into professional photography until I became an adult. After my daughter was born I decided to get into it full time and I have loved every bit of it ever since.
Nothing in this world is perfect but I still try to perfect my art by paying attention to fine details. (Sometime it a good thing and sometimes it’s a bad thing :) )
When I create I try to tell a story whether it’s a family, a couple of a fashion session.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to create photos that last a life time. Photos that tell a great and breath taking stories and show many personalities.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Besides the obvious which is getting “The Shot” I want my clients to have a great experience and feel heard about their expectations before and during the session. Getting that call or email after they see their final photos and hearing how much they love and will forever cherish those photographs is probably the best feeling and part of what I do.
