We recently connected with Shaee Presume and have shared our conversation below.
Shaee, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Honestly, to be successful I think it takes a certain type of discipline, consistency and relationship with God. You have to discipline yourself around money, you have to remain consistent in a world that’s always on go, and without God you’re nothing.
Shaee, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a 24-year-old Pro make up artist, based in Fort Lauderdale Florida. I’ve been servicing clients for 4 years and I specialize in anything from Natural to Glam looks. What sets me apart from others in my industry is that when you book me, you’re booking an experience, not just a look. I got into doing make up because I always admired Art and working a 9-5 really wasn’t something I saw in my own future. It’s definitely something I’m passionate about and even brings me peace. I’m honestly proud of myself because the growth of my business wasn’t something I thought I could really do but with God all things are possible.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
My side hustle definitely turned into my main hustle. Right before going full-time with make up I was a server and the whole 9-5 concept always agitated me. Employers treat you like a number and it wasn’t for me. I’d ask family members, friends and even coworkers if I could practice on their faces. Of course I got No’s but I still made it work. Eventually I got comfortable enough to begin excepting clients and my business took off from there. Before my business took off the support was seldom but I pushed through and now it’s definitely paying off.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn would definitely be working harder produces more results. When you work smarter it’s less wear and tear on your body and it leaves room for creativity. When you work harder you’re burning yourself out and that isn’t something you’d want to experience as a busy business owner.
