We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nastassja Sassau a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nastassja thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Sucess. What is success? By definition success is an accomplishment of an aim or purpose. To be successful it takes hard work, dedication and consistency. Set obtainable goals and take the necessary steps to reach them. Focus on one thing at a time to maintain focus, perfect your craft and grow your business.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Nastassja. My business name is Braids by Nastassja. I learned how to braid about 16 years ago. I practiced and perfected my craft while braiding my daughter’s hair as she was coming up. From there I started to do friends and family and got better and better. I became a Registered Nurse at the age of 25 years old and while practicing nursing I continued to braid on the side as another stream of income. One day I decided to take it on full-time and take a break from nursing. Once I solely focused on perfecting my craft my creative juices started flowing. I offer various braiding styles and there’s not many braids that I cannot do. I also offer silk presses, sew-ins with natural leave outs, sleek ponytails and a range of other styles. My braiding technique and healthy hair practice separates me from most others in the business. I offer tips while getting serviced to start and/or continue healthy hair growth. Most of my clients will attest to my blessed growing hands. Follow me on IG: braidsbynastassja.
How did you build your audience on social media?
My social media audience has grew from multiple things. One I have paid for promo from a few of Houston’s known social media influencers. I worked as an assistant for a known braider by the name of Missy and her posting and tagging me has definitely grown my followers. Word of mouth and also consistent posting of my work gained followers as well. I have way more growing to do but I just take it a day at a time.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I feel like Instagram and word of mouth go hand in hand with my new clientele.
