Shannel , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
The biggest trend I have seen in the makeup industry is more natural makeup. Women are now starting to embrace more of their natural beauty and find ways to feel more comfortable in their skin.

My name is Shannel Watkins. I am a 22-year-old freelance makeup artist in the metro area. I started doing makeup in 2015. What inspired me what the beauty of makeup and how we are able to enhance our beauty in so many ways. The one thing I love the most about my job will be the connections l have built with all my clients. The thing l am most proud of in my business is my ability to please my customers every time l provide them with a service. My next goal is to work with our younger generation and teach them beauty services and ways to make money at a young age.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective way to grow your clientele is to constantly do content and brand yourself on social media. when l began my business l did a lot of free jobs to help grow my business and meet people. Another key point to growing your business is networking with other business owners. Networking with other people in the beauty industry will help learn more, grow your business more as well.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Makeup can be very expensive. Being a new makeup artist l suggest buying drugstore brand makeup until you have the funding to get high-end makeup. Drug store brand makeup works just as well as high-end makeup.
