We recently connected with Whitney Rice and have shared our conversation below.
Whitney, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
Last winter I took on a garage job that was a huge project. The space was being totally renovated, so everything had to be removed, then organized and put back into the newly renovated space. Over several weeks and with a little help, I successfully completed the job and the client was in awe. Seeing that look on our clients’ faces is truly the reason we do what we do. It’s so rewarding to see our hard work pay off and to know our client is set up for success once our job is finished.
Whitney, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Whitney Rice and I’m a professional organizer and owner at Simplified Austin. We are a full-service professional organizing company helping busy Austinites by creating functional, sustainable and beautifully organized spaces. We teach our clients how to minimize the clutter and keep it that way. Our process includes top-to-bottom management of the entire organization process, including the time we spend designing and presenting solutions, shopping for supplies and hauling donations. Our attention to detail and passion for organizing are what sets us apart.
I was an early-childhood teacher in Austin for over 12 years before pivoting to focus on Simplified Austin full-time in 2021. I’ve been able to apply my training as a teacher in my organizing business when working with clients (kids included) to develop sustainable organizing solutions. So many people get frustrated with the lack of organization in their homes and we are here to teach them how to conquer the clutter, once and for all.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Organizing has been a passion of mine since I was a child, but I never thought it would become my career! After graduating from The University of Texas’ College of Education in 2008, I spent over 12 years teaching young children. Over winter break in 2019, one of my old students’ parents (who knew I had a knack for organizing) hired me to organize their pantry while they were away. When they returned from vacation to discover their newly organized pantry, they were blown away at the results. The word quickly spread from there and by 2021 it became apparent that I could shift from teaching to organizing full-time!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me has been word of mouth. It’s so exciting when happy clients tell their friends about how Simplified Austin has been able to help them transform their homes. It’s the ultimate compliment!
