Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stacy Simmons. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Stacy , appreciate you joining us today. Do you manage your own social media?
One of the many hats I wear in my small shop world is managing my own social media. I am no expert by any means, but I honestly enjoy it. Not to say it can’t be challenging.
Social media can be a love and hate relationship. Love it because it can help grow your business and I can connect with my shoppers, hate it because it is such a timer sucker.
A few observations from my personal experience…
Algorithms are like that bad ex that doesn’t know what they want and you are constantly changing yourself to get them to be more into you, when really it’s not you it’s them. Confusing and it changes every day. Please go back to early 2010, IG. Sincerely, everyone.
Giveaways are great ways to appreciate your audience but I’ve learned that it hurts your engagement. When I started NM I decided I would not do any giveaways to gain followers that just want to stick around for freebies. Rather I focused on building a community, focusing on who was already supporting me, the loyal should be getting all the fun stuff!
People love seeing the behind the scenes. I often share mom life, my pop up set ups, late night work sessions and it’s important to me to also support and share other local makers. Letting the shopper get to know you connects them with your brand.
It would be hard to let me hand over my socials to an agency at this time. It’s something I work hard at and it’s part of growing the business.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started making leather jewelry for myself. I loved the pieces I made and saw this void in the industry for romantic, neutral, and feminine leather jewelry. My intention was to create a cool women’s leather brand, and one day I made some girls bunny clips for Easter for fun and it took off from there. The leather art I create is unique and I love that it challenges my creativity and it also fuels my baby girl dreams as I am a boy mama lol.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Doing pop ups and markets! I love the hustle and bustle of the pop up life. I love meeting shoppers and telling my story. And even better is meeting shoppers, turned the most supportive friends.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I definitely have the best and most loyal shoppers. I try to make everyone feel special and always let them know how grateful I am for their support. The community fuels the brand!
