Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yannelle Vidal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Yannelle, thanks for joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I couldn’t be anymore grateful to become a business owner. I get to choose my own schedule and hours, on top of that I get to meet lots of new faces! Getting to connect with others is an amazing feeling to me, with them coming to my suite and showing off what I have built, is no greater feeling. I do sometimes wonder how it would be to have a regular job. I honestly couldnt imagine working a 9-5pm with me being so used to my own schedule. I would love to experience having co-workers! Thats something, I do miss. Getting close with your work crew environment is very important in any industry. I eventually do want to hire on employees to work with me, but all with time.
Yannelle, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
A young Latina entrepreneur hasn’t always been the easiest. But here we are, enjoying every step of the way. Im Yannelle Vidal most call me Nelly. I’m currently a 21 year old Licensed Esthetician, with my own mini beauty salon known as Naturallyynelly, located in Pflugerville, Texas. Centeral Texas has always been where I have grown up and located to be my well known area. Growing up in a big city like Austin, Texas definitely has its perks and bumpy roads to it. But here we are making it. When I was a little girl, I remember always hanging around the salon as my mom was the receptionist. I always loved seeing the hairstylist do their work, the way they styled the hair, making people feel beautiful about themselves just by there work was a desirable feeling that, I felt as if I could/ wanted to make someone feel that beautiful with my own work and talent. Being around the beauty industry has made me such a diva, to who I am now.
Right out of high school, I enrolled into Aveda, where I become my Esthiology course of 750 hours. Where I was full- time 3 days out of the week 9am to 8pm. I quickly picked up the knowledge I needed to start on my own. As I had my permit, I began to take in clients and I instantly knew I LOVED what I do. To facials, waxing, makeup and even lash extensions. It had felt as if it was everything I had wanted to do. I immediately knew the beauty industry was for me and I wanted to have my own empire. I continued to strive and be great at what I wanted to be known for.
Eventually I graduated Aveda and got my Esthiology License in 2020 at 19 years old, becoming home-based being a 2x certified Lash Technician and having Certifications in Derma-planning, Micro-blading, and Lip blushing. The thing is, the beauty industry is never ending, education is never ending. Im proud to say, I never had to spend thousands in college and be in student dept to become successful.
I currently now provide certifications and trainings for incoming Lash Artists, owning my own a Mini Salon. Speaking into the future, Naturallyynelly will thrive to provide their own product line. As it is something I am currently working on, for other artists like me to use high quality products for their clients. From doing the work to having a store front and providing the education and supplies that is needed for other artists worldwide is a top teir goal for me. Anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience on social media was challenging but fun! When choosing a name, thing of long term. Also, think of what all the services you want to provide, and something that suits the industry you are in. When creating my name, I wanted to make it rhyme, Most people knew me as Nelly and I never wore lot of makeup, I was always natural so I knew Naturallyynelly would suite me best. Building my social media was a big goal for me as well, you want to make your page look professional and neat. You want to choose colors or a style that suits you when creating content. For example, I chose my page to consist of mostly pink and white, eye catching and elegant.
Hashtags, was definitely my thing and still continues to be. When creating a post and thinking of a caption, you can always count on hashtags to get the audience you want. For Example : #AUSTINLASHARTIST, #LASHEXTENSIONS etc. use your surrounding areas to help you promote yourself as well.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
During my time in high school and Aveda, I spent my free time putting in work hours at HEB. I spend majority of my time working and saving for what I needed purchase and to have for when I was ready to start servicing for clients at home. During those times, I was dead broke, barely making it. But I’m glad to say, my money spent on everything was well worth it and would pay off at the end of the day.
