We were lucky to catch up with Dani Adams-Barry recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dani, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
As a newborn and family photographer, one of the most meaningful ways I show appreciation for my clients is by putting their experience ahead of getting the “perfect” photo. Parents often come to a session worried that their toddler won’t cooperate or that their newborn will be fussy. I make it a point to reassure them that their children are not expected to perform and that the session will move at their family’s pace.
I remember one session where a mother arrived visibly stressed because her newborn would not settle and her older child was having a difficult day. Instead of rushing or forcing poses, we slowed everything down. We took breaks for feeding, cuddles, and comfort. I encouraged the parents to simply hold their baby, love on their children, and be present with one another. Some of the most beautiful images from that session came from those unscripted moments—the way mom looked at her baby, dad comforting his daughter, and the family’s genuine connection.
After delivering their gallery, the mother shared that she had expected the session to be another stressful obligation but instead felt cared for, supported, and seen. She told me that for the first time, she felt like someone understood what life with young children really looks like. To me, that’s the greatest compliment. Photography is about more than creating beautiful images; it’s about creating an experience where families feel valued, appreciated, and free to simply be themselves. When clients leave feeling less stressed than when they arrived and have photographs that preserve the emotions of that season of life, I know I’ve done my job well.

Dani, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Dani Adams-Barry, and I am the owner of Dani Adams-Barry Photography. I specialize in maternity, newborn, milestone, and family photography, serving families throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In addition to photography, I am also a certified placenta encapsulation specialist with North Dallas Doula Associates (NDDA), supporting mothers during one of the most transformative seasons of their lives.
My journey into this work began with a deep passion for serving mothers and babies. Growing up in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, I spent my summers volunteering in the labor and delivery ward at Valley View Hospital. Those experiences sparked a lifelong love for obstetrics and the incredible strength of women during pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. After returning to Dallas for college, I found myself drawn to creative storytelling through photography, and over time, I combined my love for families with my artistic eye to build a career documenting some of life’s most meaningful moments.
Today, I provide a full range of photography services, including maternity, newborn, family, milestone, and motherhood sessions. My goal is to create timeless images that capture authentic connection, emotion, and the unique story of each family. Through my placenta encapsulation services, I also support mothers during postpartum recovery, allowing me to serve families both behind the camera and during the important days following birth.
What sets me apart is my approach. I believe beautiful photographs come from genuine moments, not forced poses. I intentionally create a relaxed, judgment-free environment where children can simply be themselves and parents can focus on loving their family rather than stressing about perfection. Some of the most cherished images are the unplanned moments—the way a mother looks at her baby, a toddler’s spontaneous giggle, or the quiet connection between parents and their newborn.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
One of the biggest turning points in growing my audience was deciding to submit my work to professional photography competitions and industry publications. Putting your work up for judging can be incredibly vulnerable because you’re inviting critique from other photographers and industry experts. However, I viewed it as an opportunity to grow and challenge myself creatively. Having my images recognized by the photography community not only boosted my confidence, but it also helped establish credibility with potential clients. Those recognitions opened doors to new opportunities, introduced my work to broader audiences, and connected me with other photographers who inspired me to continue improving my craft.
I also learned that social media growth doesn’t happen overnight. Some of the most meaningful growth came from building genuine relationships rather than chasing numbers. I made it a priority to engage with my followers, support other local businesses, celebrate my clients, and consistently show up online. Over time, those authentic connections led to referrals, repeat clients, and a loyal community that continues to support my work.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Without question, the best source of new clients for my business has been word-of-mouth referrals. As a photographer who works closely with expectant mothers, newborns, and families, trust is incredibly important. When a parent recommends me to a friend, family member, or coworker, that referral carries far more weight than any advertisement ever could.
I believe those referrals come from focusing on the client experience just as much as the final images. My goal is to create a relaxed, enjoyable environment where families feel comfortable, supported, and genuinely cared for. Parents often tell me they appreciate that I don’t rush sessions. I understand that babies need feeding breaks, toddlers have big emotions, and sometimes the most beautiful moments happen when we stop trying to make everything perfect.
Over the years, many of my clients have returned for multiple milestones—from maternity sessions to newborn portraits, first birthdays, and annual family photos. Those long-term relationships have become the foundation of my business. There is no greater compliment than having a family trust me to document their story year after year and then recommend me to the people they love most.
