We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful D-Win. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with D-Win below.
D-Win, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My mother had the biggest impact on my life. She raised me in church and taught me both the love of God and the fear of God, which became the foundation for how I approach life, business, and relationships.
She also believed in me before I believed in myself. She bought me my first car at 17, helped me get my first jobs at Kroger and Chuck E. Cheese, and supported me throughout college. Those opportunities taught me responsibility, work ethic, and independence at a young age.
Looking back, her faith, sacrifice, and support gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams as an entrepreneur, fashion designer, and musician. Everything I’m building today is rooted in the values she instilled in me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is D-Win. I am a musician, fashion designer, and entrepreneur based in Los Angeles. I am the founder of Winfield, an independent clothing brand, and Winfield Sound, my independent record label.
I first got into fashion through my love for design and storytelling. That passion led me to study Fashion Design at The Illinois Institute of Art in Chicago. Around the same time, I was developing my skills as a musician and songwriter. Rather than choosing one creative path, I committed myself to building both.
Today, I create premium apparel through Winfield and release music under the name D-Win. My work is inspired by faith, family, personal growth, and the pursuit of excellence. Whether I am designing a garment or writing a song, I want the final product to feel timeless, intentional, and authentic.
What sets me apart is that everything I create comes from my own life experiences. I am not following trends. I am documenting my journey and building a lifestyle that reflects my values. My goal is to create work that inspires people to think bigger, have faith, and remain committed to their vision even when success does not happen overnight.
What I am most proud of is staying consistent. Building a clothing brand and a music career independently has required patience, sacrifice, and perseverance. There have been many challenges along the way, but I have continued to move forward and grow.
The main thing I want people to know is that Winfield is more than a clothing brand and D-Win is more than an artist. Both represent creating a life with purpose, integrity, and intention. Everything I create is rooted in the belief that with faith, hard work, and consistency, it is possible to build something meaningful that lasts.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
One resource I wish I had discovered earlier was mentorship. Looking back, having direct access to people who had already built successful brands or careers in music would have saved me years of trial and error.
As an independent creative, I spent a lot of time teaching myself through experience. While that journey helped me grow, I now understand the value of learning from people who have already achieved what you are trying to accomplish.
I also wish I had understood the importance of ownership earlier. Owning your brand, your intellectual property, and your creative direction gives you the freedom to build something that lasts. Many creatives focus solely on the art, but learning the business side is just as important.
Today, with so much information available online, there are more resources than ever. The challenge is not access to information, but finding the right guidance and staying consistent enough to apply

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that hard work alone guarantees success.
Early in my creative journey, I thought that if I simply worked harder than everyone else, opportunities would automatically come. While hard work is essential, I eventually learned that relationships, networking, communication, and visibility are just as important.
As a musician and fashion designer, I spent years focused almost entirely on creating. I believed the work would speak for itself. Over time, I realized that great work still needs to be shared, marketed, and put in front of the right people. Some of the biggest opportunities in my career have come through conversations, relationships, and simply showing up in the right rooms.
That lesson changed my perspective. Today, I still believe in working hard, but I also understand the importance of building genuine relationships and creating opportunities rather than waiting for them to find me.
