We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Remicha Carter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Remicha below.
Alright, Remicha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I’d say one of the biggest risks I’ve taken was choosing to walk away from what looked like a very stable, successful path… to build something that didn’t have a clear blueprint yet.
Early on, I was actually on a completely different trajectory. At 16, I was accepted into NASA’s SHARP program, and I got to work on real engineering projects like the T-38 inlet redesign and the X-38 crew return vehicle. From there, I went on to work with Honeywell Aerospace. So everything about my path said, “You’re going corporate, you’re going technical, you’re going to have a very structured career.”
And then later, I became a teacher and spent 10 years in education. So again—stable, meaningful, predictable.
But at the same time, I had this business on the side… and it kept growing.
What really shifted things for me was realizing that my clients weren’t just coming for hair. They were coming with hair loss, scalp issues, stress… confidence issues. And I found myself going deeper—studying scalp health, becoming a hair loss practitioner, really trying to understand the root of what they were dealing with.
And I had this moment where I realized… I don’t just want to do hair. I want to create transformation.
So the risk was leaving what I knew would work… to build something I believed could work.
There were definitely moments where it didn’t feel secure—financial pressure, long hours, figuring things out as I went. And I was also doing something a little different, focusing on scalp health and wellness before it really became popular.
But I trusted the vision.
And today, that decision turned into Root Awakening Hair Spa, which is a wellness-focused space where people don’t just get their hair done—they actually experience restoration. And it also led to building my extension brand, Bougie Bundles.
So for me, that risk taught me that sometimes you have to be willing to leave what’s proven… to step into what’s possible. And if you stay committed, it can turn into something even bigger than what you originally imagined.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Here you go with Remicha’s name woven in naturally:
My name is Remicha Carter — but most people know me simply as Remi. I’m an entrepreneur, licensed cosmetologist, certified hair loss practitioner, author, and minister, all wrapped into one. I’m based in Humble, Texas, and I’m the founder and CEO of Remi’s Salon LTD Co, which is the parent company behind Root Awakening Hair Spa and Bougie Bundles.
My journey to this industry is one that surprises a lot of people. I actually have a background in aerospace engineering and went on to earn my MBA from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Before stepping fully into entrepreneurship, I spent ten years as a high school teacher. So I’ve worn a lot of hats — and honestly, every single one of them shaped the business owner I am today.
I’ve been self-employed since 2011, and somewhere along the way I realized that the beauty industry was leaving something on the table. People were being styled, but they weren’t being truly cared for. That’s what led me to create Root Awakening Hair Spa — a luxury wellness experience inspired by Korean and Japanese head spa techniques. We do scalp analysis, steam therapy, red light therapy, customized hair loss treatments — we’re really focused on getting to the root cause of what’s happening with your hair and scalp, not just masking it.
Then there’s Bougie Bundles, my premium hair extension brand — designed for women who want quality, luxury, and confidence in every look.
Beyond the salon, I’m also a published author and associate minister. My books, including Trust the Process and How to Triumph Over Tragedy, come from that same place — the belief that real transformation isn’t just physical. It’s spiritual and emotional too.
At the end of the day, everything I do is rooted in one conviction: true transformation begins at the root.

Have you ever had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots in my career happened when I realized I wanted to do more than just style hair. As a hairstylist, I was seeing more and more clients struggling with thinning hair, shedding, scalp conditions, and hair loss. I felt frustrated that I could make their hair look beautiful for the day, but I wasn’t always able to answer the bigger questions about why these issues were happening.
That challenge led me to study Trichology, the science of the hair and scalp. The more I learned, the more I realized there was a tremendous need for education and support in this area. What started as a desire to help my clients better understand their hair eventually led me to become a Hair Loss Practitioner.
Today, I combine my experience as a hairstylist with my training in scalp health and hair loss. Instead of focusing only on styling, I help clients identify potential causes of hair concerns, improve scalp health, and create personalized plans that support healthier hair growth.
Looking back, what felt like a limitation in my knowledge became an opportunity for growth. My clients’ questions pushed me to learn more, and that journey transformed not only my career but the entire direction of my business.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe the biggest factor in building our reputation has been our commitment to treating every client as an individual rather than just another appointment on the schedule. From the moment someone walks through our doors, we want them to feel seen, heard, and cared for.
In an industry that often focuses on the end result, we’ve built our reputation by focusing on the entire client experience. That means taking the time to understand a client’s goals, educating them about their hair and scalp health, and creating solutions that are tailored to their specific needs.
Whether someone comes to us for a relaxing scalp spa experience, hair restoration support, or a styling service, we approach every appointment with the same level of care and professionalism. We believe people remember how you make them feel, and we work hard to ensure every client leaves feeling more confident than when they arrived.
As a result, word-of-mouth referrals have become one of the strongest drivers of our growth. Many of our new clients come to us because a friend, family member, or colleague shared their positive experience. To me, that’s one of the greatest compliments a business can receive. It tells me that we’re not just providing a service—we’re building trust and creating lasting relationships within our community.
