We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christie Baez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Christie , appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My mother taught me to remain humble always. To remember no one’s greater than God especially oneself. To always be compassionate but also firm. This has helped me through my career because even when things are going great it’s always a reminder to never let my ego take over the bigger picture of why I started the beauty industry even in a field where many can. It helps remind me that I started this with the intention of helping others by listening & servicing. That’s where the compassion plays a big part. Being firm in this industry is a necessity because many due to kindness will try to abuse that and remaining firm shows them you’re here for them but you respect your time and craft.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Christie Baez, and I am a professional hair and makeup artist based in Northwest Indiana and Chicago, available for travel worldwide. For over 13 years, I have had the privilege of helping clients look and feel their absolute best through hair and makeup artistry for bridal, quinceañera, commercial print, fashion, and on-set productions.
My journey into this industry started with a genuine passion for beauty, creativity, and the confidence that comes from helping someone see themselves in a new light. What began as a love for hair and makeup quickly grew into a career that has allowed me to connect with people during some of the most important moments of their lives. From a bride walking down the aisle to a quinceañera celebrating a milestone, I understand that my work is about much more than appearance—it’s about creating an experience and helping clients feel confident, beautiful, and truly themselves.
I offer professional hair and makeup services tailored to each client’s individual style, features, and vision. Whether I’m creating a timeless bridal look, a glamorous quinceañera transformation, a polished commercial appearance, or a fashion-forward editorial style, my goal is always the same: to enhance natural beauty while ensuring my clients feel comfortable and confident.
One of the biggest challenges I help solve is the stress and uncertainty that often comes with preparing for an important event. My clients trust me to guide them through the beauty process, listen to their needs, and create a look that photographs beautifully while still feeling authentic to who they are. I believe beauty should never feel like a mask—it should feel like the best version of yourself.
What sets me apart is my commitment to both artistry and client experience. I take the time to build relationships, understand each client’s vision, and create a personalized experience from start to finish. My background across multiple areas of the beauty industry—from bridal and quinceañeras to commercial and fashion work—has given me a versatile skill set that allows me to adapt to a wide range of styles and needs.
What I am most proud of is the trust my clients place in me and the relationships I’ve built throughout my career. Many of my clients return for multiple milestones in their lives, and there is no greater compliment than being invited back to be part of those special moments.
At the heart of my brand is a simple mission: to provide exceptional artistry, professionalism, and an experience that makes every client feel seen, valued, and confident. I want potential clients to know that when they sit in my chair, they are not just booking a service—they are investing in an experience built on passion, dedication, and over a decade of expertise.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my audience on social media has been a journey of consistency, authenticity, and learning what truly connects with people. As a hair and makeup artist, I started by simply sharing my work and the transformations I was creating for my clients. Over time, I realized that people weren’t just interested in the finished look—they wanted to see the process, the artistry, the behind-the-scenes moments, and the person behind the brand.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that growth doesn’t happen overnight. There have been times when engagement was high and times when it felt slow, but I continued showing up, sharing my work, and focusing on providing value rather than chasing numbers. Every client, every bridal party, every quinceañera, and every photoshoot became an opportunity to showcase my skills and connect with a wider audience.
I believe my audience has grown because I stay true to who I am and the work I genuinely love. Instead of trying to fit every trend, I focus on creating content that reflects my style, my professionalism, and the experience I provide to my clients. People want to work with someone they can trust, and social media allows me to build that trust before we ever meet.
For anyone just starting to build a social media presence, my advice is to be patient and consistent. Don’t wait for everything to be perfect before you start posting. Share your work, tell your story, engage with your audience, and let people get to know you. Focus on creating quality content, but also remember that authenticity is just as important as aesthetics.
Most importantly, don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. Every successful brand started with zero followers at some point. Keep learning, keep improving your craft, and keep showing up. The right audience will find you when they can see your passion, your expertise, and the value you bring.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The majority of my new clients come from referrals and word-of-mouth. Over the years, I’ve focused on creating not only beautiful hair and makeup looks but also a great experience for every client. Social media has also been a valuable tool for showcasing my work and connecting with new clients, but nothing is more rewarding than having past clients recommend me to their friends and family.
