We recently connected with Nate Pack and have shared our conversation below.
Nate, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I believe that repetition is the key to learning. I wasn’t a very good painter until I set a goal to complete 40 paintings one year and then I set that same goal for the next 10 years. Through that process I now I understand how to use the materials and have confidence in knowing that I can find success. Do 100 bad paintings and then you will start to do good ones. Establish good habits and surround yourself will people that will push you.

Nate, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I do commission works for people – acrylic canvases and murals. I sell at festivals, galleries and gift shops. I enjoy mostly painting musicians and athletes in motion with loud and moving colors and compositions. I have decided to teach at the local high school because I am not the type to just be alone in a studio day after day. One of my favorite clients have been the Legendary Blues Cruise where I painted the performers and you can currently find my work online on at The American Jazz Museum in Kansas City.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Getting a fine arts degree, I wish they taught us not just how to create but also how to market our art.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
The article that stands out the most is one entitled “Art that Connects”. Not sure who the author was, but I have found it important in choosing what to paint. He said the best 3 ways to connect with your audience is through the mind, heart or funny bone. In other words paint something that teaches, makes one fell emotion or use humor. In this way – people will connect on a deeper and more meaningful level.
