Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sabrina Burrell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sabrina , appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
For years, I stood with one foot in a job and the other in creativity, trying not to fall. The job barely paid my bills, but little by little it began taking something more valuable—my time, my imagination, my sense of self.
One day I stopped and asked myself, “How long are you going to keep trading your dreams for a paycheck?”
That question changed everything.
I realized I wasn’t trapped by circumstance. I was trapped by fear. Fear of trusting myself. Fear of stepping into the unknown.
The breakthrough came when I understood that no job could give me what I was looking for. What I needed was already inside me: belief, courage, and the willingness to begin.
I still respect the value of a regular job. But for me, creativity isn’t what I do—it’s who I am. The moment I stopped running from that truth, I finally felt free.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I’m the founder of The Other Plate, a food and lifestyle brand built on the idea that food can be more than something we eat—it can be the beginning of a new story.
My journey started with my own health challenges. What began as a search for answers led me to plant-based foods, and eventually to creating a business centered around cookies, poetry, and storytelling.
People often know me for my chocolate chip cookies, but the cookie is really just the conversation starter. What I’m most interested in is helping people become curious about what’s possible. A different ingredient. A different choice. A different outcome.
What sets me apart is that I don’t preach. I invite. I believe change happens through discovery, not perfection.
What I’m most proud of is building a brand that reflects my own journey of reinvention. The Other Plate is about possibility, creativity, and the courage to trust yourself enough to begin again.
I may sell cookies, but what I’m really offering is a different way to look at the plate—and perhaps a different way to look at life.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The food I eat tells a story.
It’s not traditional. It’s not trendy. And it’s rarely what people expect to see on a plate.
Every ingredient is a choice. Every combination is a conversation. I often think of my meals as small love letters to the body—foods chosen to support, nourish, and work in harmony with the organs that quietly keep us alive.
Some of my combinations are unusual. Some are downright weird. But they come from years of asking questions, paying attention, and learning from both my successes and my struggles.
That’s the mission behind The Other Plate.
I don’t want to tell people what to eat. I simply want to share my journey and invite people to become curious about their own. Because sometimes a different life begins with a different plate.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is knowing that my struggles didn’t go to waste.
If a story, a meal, or an idea helps someone see their own life differently, then the journey was worth it.
