Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lisa Mitts. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lisa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I actually had a later start than most music artists…while I was raised in music as a child from the age of 6 with 12 years of classical piano training, vocal lessons and musical theatre, I put al of that aside after my first year of college when I realized I did not want to be a classical pianist and instead switched majors to Broadcasting Production in Journalism and Communications. I got married right after I graduated the University of Florida and didn’t really have time or consider pursuing a professional path with my music until many years later after my youngest child was 11 years old.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
It would be easiest to share here a little of my artist’s bio for your first question and then we can look at some of the other questions.
“Lisa Mitts is an American singer-songwriter known for her work in the Americana, Indie Rock and Singer/Songwriter genres. She gained recognition for her powerful vocals and emotive songwriting, often drawing from personal experiences and themes of love, resilience, and self-discovery.
Mitts, a prolific songwriter, has released 15 albums and many singles, showcasing her versatility as an artist. Her music often features catchy melodies and relatable lyrics, appealing to a broad audience. In addition to her solo work, she has collaborated with various artists and contributed to songwriting for other musicians and has also written and released two piano instrumental projects, Heart Songs Vol 1 and 2.”
I would say I am most proud of my annual benefit concerts, Evening Of Destiny, to support a foundation I and my husband established in 2012 called Destiny House Restoration Center, a transition home and healing program for survivors of human trafficking.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think it’s hard for some people to understand why those of us who are artists, especially in the music industry, continue to spend so much time and financial resources into writing, professionally recording, performing, marketing and many other roles. But it is truly part of our DNA.. Every time I think I am done with all of it and time to just retire or move on, I hear another song, another hook, something that inspires me to want to bring that song to the world because it could bring real hope, joy or breakthrough for someone else…it’s our legacy, both now and when we leave this earth.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
For me that would be having started my professional artist career so much later in life than most do and swimming upstream in a culture where the younger you are, the more likely you are to succeed, has caused me to be very resilient and continually remind myself that it is God’s gift and calling in me and that I am not in a race with anyone else. When you realize you’re not in this to become famous or rich, but rather to become the best you can at your art, then it truly is a fun journey and you know you are doing what you were created to do.
