We recently connected with Tyronsa Lawrence and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyronsa, thanks for joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I am very happy as a business owner. Of course it has its ups and downs and some days when it gets really slow I think about getting what people consider a “regular” job. Believe it or not the holidays are the slowest times for me because most people are doing their own baking and focusing on getting gifts for the holidays. During that time is when I think about it but I also know if I were to work for someone else I wouldn’t have the freedom that I have now and that is what keeps me going. I know slow times don’t last forever.

Tyronsa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. I have lived in my hometown of Rocky Mount, NC my whole life. I have always been fascinated with baking, even as a child. I have always had an entrepreneur spirit and have always known that I wanted to work for myself. I have always been what some people consider gifted and talented. While I had a regular job with the city, I started my first business in 2009 with a clothing store called Plush Diamond Boutique that focused on ladies shoes and fashion, while doing that I stepped into the kitchen and started baking and I made cake pops that I called Plush Pops. In 2010 I was fired from my city job but that was ok because my boutique business was growing tremendously! I put baking on the back burner and found my first storefront to open my clothing store in 2011. During that time in 2010 I also branched into makeup artistry. I started off doing my own makeup and practiced on my daughter, family, and friends. I was then asked to do a few people and decided to make it a separate business called Millionaire Status and it began to grow larger than the clothing store. In 2012 with the help of my husband, I created my own cosmetic line, where we offered an array of colorful lip glosses, lipsticks, and eye shadows. I eventually decided to downsize and focus solely on the makeup in 2015. I continued the makeup line and makeup artistry until 2019 when I felt burnt out and decided to go back to the city in a different department. After over 10 years I completer retired from the makeup field. I actually started with the city at the end of 2018. In 2020 was when my love for desserts came back to me. I started making mini cheesecakes in different flavors and decided to call the business Petite Treats Miniature Desserts. During the summer of 2020 I decided to add cookies to the menu. In September of 2020 I was asked to decorate a cake for a birthday. While hesitant I decided to give it a go. I did that one and it just took off. After a while I was doing 10-15 cake orders per week on top of working rotating shifts with the city. I started to also start experimenting with different cupcake flavors during this time. I then knew it was time for me to leave my regular job again to pursue my career full time because I was so passionate about it. In 2022 I found building I felt was perfect for my store front. I left my job in January of 2023. It took some time but in May 24, 2025 i officially opened my storefront. My goal was to not only do cupcakes but come up with flavor combinations that you couldnt find just anywhere.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The way i built my audience was consistency. When i started social media wasnt what it is today. There was no monetization, you just had to show up as authentically you. I posted my work consistently. 90% of my post is my work and the other 10% are post to keep the people laughing and engaged. The way to build is to show up for yourself on all platforms

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I already had a following from my boutique and makeup. I took that and just showed up in this business. I already had supporters who have stuck by me through every business. When i start something i literally give it my all and i think that shows through everything that i do.
