We recently connected with Miyoshi Garrison and have shared our conversation below.
Miyoshi, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Before becoming a business owner, I worked as a Medical Assistant for 17 years at Piedmont and 2 years at Benton House. Those experiences gave me the knowledge, confidence, and courage to step into business ownership because I was already working in the healthcare field and serving others every day.
At the same time, I was also caring for my mom after she had recently suffered a stroke, and that experience changed my perspective on care. It became more than a job for me—it became personal.
Being a business owner is definitely stressful at times, and there are moments that come with sacrifice and responsibility, but I truly love what I do. Home care is not just work to me—it’s a ministry and a calling. I love taking care of people, helping families, and making sure individuals can receive quality care while remaining in the comfort of their homes.
Owning MIMI Cares Personal Care has allowed me to turn my experience, compassion, and purpose into something meaningful, and I wouldn’t trade that.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
.For those who may not know me, I’m the founder and owner of MIMI Cares Personal Care, a business created from both professional experience and personal purpose. Before becoming a business owner, I worked in healthcare for many years as a Medical Assistant for 17 years at Piedmont and spent an additional 2 years at Benton House. Those experiences gave me a strong foundation in patient care, compassion, and understanding the needs of individuals and families navigating health challenges.
My journey into business ownership became even more personal while caring for my mother after she suffered a stroke. Through that experience, I saw firsthand how important quality care, education, patience, and support are—not only for the individual receiving care but also for their family. That became the heart behind MIMI Cares.
At MIMI Cares Personal Care, we provide compassionate home care services focused on helping individuals maintain dignity, independence, and quality of life in the comfort of their own homes. But our mission goes beyond caregiving—we also focus heavily on education, support, and helping families feel empowered during the aging journey.
One thing that sets me apart is my passion for teaching and creating meaningful tools and resources. I am also an author and creator of the MIMI Cares Interactive Workbook for Seniors, a thoughtfully designed workbook created to support aging adults and the families who care for them.
The MIMI Cares Interactive Workbook is a great tool to help decrease anxiety that can come with aging by encouraging engagement, reflection, routine, and meaningful connection. The workbook includes interactive activities and journal prompts designed to encourage conversation, memory stimulation, emotional expression, and daily engagement.
In addition to supporting seniors, the workbook also serves as a practical caregiver resource by providing dedicated sections to organize and record important health and personal information, including:
• Medical history
• Medication tracking
• Allergies
• Personal care information
• Notes and observations
• Care planning support
This allows caregivers and families to keep important information organized and accessible while creating opportunities for more intentional care and communication.
In addition, I offer educational classes for caregivers and families:
“Let’s Get Dressed” – A class designed to educate families on choosing fashionable, comfortable, and practical clothing options for loved ones who use wheelchairs or have difficulty with buttons, zippers, and dressing independently. This class helps families preserve dignity while making everyday routines easier.
“Let’s Eat” – A nutrition-focused class that provides education and practical meal ideas for individuals who struggle with overeating or undereating. We discuss healthier options, ways to encourage healthy eating habits, and how nutrition plays an important role in overall wellness and aging.
Beyond caregiving and education, I am also the author of Broken to Becoming: A 30-Day Devotional for Women. This devotional was created to help women turn pain into purpose, strengthen their faith, remain grounded through everyday life, and find healing through reflection and encouragement.
What I’m most proud of is that MIMI Cares is more than a business—it’s built on love, lived experience, service, and purpose. Every service, class, and resource was created with the goal of helping people feel seen, supported, and empowered.
I want potential clients, families, and supporters to know that when they connect with MIMI Cares, they are receiving more than care—they are gaining a partner who genuinely cares about education, dignity, wellness, healing, and helping people become the best version of themselves at every stage of life.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe what has helped build my reputation is being honest, fair, and leading with integrity. I treat every client the same way I would want my own family treated—with compassion, respect, patience, and genuine care.
Working in healthcare for many years taught me that people remember how you make them feel. Families are trusting us with their loved ones, and I never take that responsibility lightly.
At MIMI Cares Personal Care, we focus on building real relationships, showing up consistently, communicating openly, and providing dependable care that families can trust. I believe in treating clients as people first—not just a service.
I also think our reputation has grown because we go beyond basic care. We aim to provide interactive, meaningful experiences that support emotional wellness, companionship, and quality of life.
At the end of the day, my goal has always been simple: care for others the way I would care for my own family, and let the work speak for itself.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
One of the biggest sources of clients for me has been consistent marketing and staying connected to the community. I am always, always, always marketing because I believe people cannot support a business they do not know exists.
I actively attend senior groups, connect with senior centers, pass out business cards and flyers, and make it a priority to show up in spaces where families and caregivers are already gathering. Building relationships in the community has been a huge part of growing MIMI Cares Personal Care.
Social media has also played a major role. I consistently post, engage with people, comment, connect, and share content that educates and inspires. Social media has allowed people to get to know who we are and see the heart behind our services.
Another thing that has helped us grow is offering free caregiver classes and educational opportunities. I believe in giving value first. When families and caregivers feel supported and informed, trust naturally follows.
For me, growth has not come from one single source—it has come from being visible, being intentional, staying active in the community, and showing people that MIMI Cares is more than a business; it’s a resource and support system for families.
