We recently connected with Yolanda Kennerly and have shared our conversation below.
Yolanda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest risks I ever took was reinventing myself after spending decades in an industry I thought I would be in forever.
For over 25 years, I built a successful career in the mortgage industry. I began as a loan officer in the early 1990s and eventually became a mortgage broker. For many years, helping families achieve homeownership wasn’t just my profession it was part of my identity.
Then life changed.
Like many entrepreneurs, I experienced unexpected challenges that forced me to reevaluate everything. The mortgage industry shifted, and I found myself at a crossroads. I had to decide whether to hold on to what was familiar or take a leap into something completely new.
At an age when many people are thinking about retirement, I chose reinvention.
That decision was terrifying.
I had no guarantee that starting an online business would work. I wasn’t a tech expert. I didn’t have a large following. And as someone who naturally values meaningful connections over constant visibility, showing up online especially on live video felt uncomfortable at first.
But I took the risk anyway.
I committed to doing a seven-day live video challenge. I remember wondering if anyone would watch or if I even had anything valuable to say. Yet something surprising happened: by the end of those seven days, I had generated $600 in revenue.
More importantly, I discovered my voice.
That experience changed everything.
Over time, I realized that success wasn’t only about strategy. I noticed that many entrepreneurs had the knowledge but still struggled to move forward because of fear, self-doubt, inconsistency, or feeling disconnected from their purpose.
My own journey taught me that real transformation begins internally.
That realization eventually led me to create The ALIGN Method™, a framework designed to help entrepreneurs align their mindset, confidence, and business strategies so they can attract opportunities without constantly chasing them.
Looking back, the greatest risk wasn’t starting a new business. The greatest risk was believing that I was too old to begin again.
Thankfully, I chose to believe otherwise.
Today, I have the privilege of helping entrepreneurs build successful and profitable businesses that reflect who they truly are. My journey has taught me that reinvention has no expiration date and that sometimes the biggest breakthroughs come when we’re willing to take a chance on ourselves.
If my story proves anything, it’s this: it’s never too late to create a new chapter.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Yolanda Kennerly, and I am a Business Strategist, Entrepreneur, and creator of The ALIGN Method™, a framework that helps entrepreneurs build successful, profitable businesses from a place of alignment rather than exhaustion.
My journey into entrepreneurship began decades ago in the mortgage industry. I started as a loan officer in the early 1990s and eventually became a mortgage broker, spending more than 25 years helping families achieve the dream of homeownership. I loved serving people, but as the industry evolved and life presented new challenges, I found myself at a crossroads that ultimately led me to reinvent myself.
At a time when many people are thinking about slowing down, I chose to begin again.
That decision led me into the online business world, where I quickly discovered that success is about far more than strategy. Through my own experiences and working with countless entrepreneurs, I noticed a common pattern: many people have the knowledge and tools to succeed, but they struggle with visibility, confidence, consistency, self-doubt, and fear of selling.
I know this firsthand because I’ve lived it.
Over time, I realized that true business growth begins internally. When entrepreneurs align who they are with how they show up in their business, everything changes from their confidence and messaging to their ability to attract clients and create sustainable success.
This realization inspired me to create The ALIGN Method™, which helps entrepreneurs identify and overcome the internal blocks that keep them from growing their businesses.
Today, I help entrepreneurs, coaches, network marketers, and content creators build businesses with greater confidence, clarity, and consistency. Through digital programs, trainings, coaching, and educational content, I teach people how to attract clients without constantly chasing them.
What sets my work apart is that I don’t believe success should come at the expense of peace. In a world that often glorifies hustle and burnout, I teach a different approach one rooted in alignment, authenticity, and sustainable growth.
One of the things I am most proud of is proving that reinvention has no expiration date. As a woman in her sixties, I want others to know that it is never too late to start over, pursue a dream, or create a meaningful impact. Some of my greatest successes have happened in seasons of life when many people believe their biggest opportunities are behind them.
If there is one thing I want people to know about me and my brand, it is this: You don’t have to chase success. When you align your mindset, message, and actions with who you truly are, success becomes something you attract rather than pursue.
My mission is simple: to help entrepreneurs scale their businesses with confidence, clarity, and alignment, while creating success that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience on social media wasn’t something that happened overnight. In fact, when I first started, I had to overcome one of the biggest obstacles many entrepreneurs face: the fear of being visible.
After spending more than 25 years in the mortgage industry, I found myself entering the online business world at a stage in life when many people are thinking about slowing down. I wasn’t a tech expert, and social media didn’t come naturally to me. But I knew that if I wanted to serve more people, I had to be willing to show up.
One of the turning points in my journey was committing to a seven-day live video challenge. At the time, going live felt intimidating. I questioned whether anyone would watch or if I had anything valuable to say. Yet I decided to do it anyway. I made a $97 dlls investment.
That decision changed everything.
By the end of those seven days, I had generated $600 in revenue, but more importantly, I discovered my voice and gained confidence in sharing my message. Since then, social media has become much more than a marketing tool for me, it’s a way to connect, serve, and inspire others.
Over the years, I’ve learned that people don’t connect with perfection; they connect with authenticity. The posts that resonate most are often the ones where I share my personal experiences, lessons learned, and the realities of entrepreneurship.
As the creator of The ALIGN Method™, I teach entrepreneurs that success isn’t about chasing every trend or constantly doing more. It’s about aligning your message, mindset, and actions with who you truly are. When you show up authentically and consistently, you naturally attract the people you’re meant to serve.
My advice for anyone just starting to build a social media presence is simple: start before you feel ready. Don’t wait for perfect branding, perfect videos, or perfect confidence. Confidence is built through action, not before it.
Consistency matters more than perfection. Focus on serving people rather than impressing them. Share your story because someone out there needs to hear it. And remember, your authenticity is your greatest advantage because no one else can tell your story the way you can.
Looking back, I’m most grateful that I chose to show up before I felt fully prepared. That one decision not only built an audience, it helped me build a business and a mission centered around helping others create success through alignment rather than hustle.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience has been one of the defining themes of my entrepreneurial journey.
For more than 25 years, I built a successful career in the mortgage industry. I began as a loan officer in the early 1990s and eventually became a mortgage broker. Like many entrepreneurs, I poured my heart into serving clients and building a business I was proud of. At the time, I believed this would be my lifelong career.
But life has a way of presenting unexpected turns.
As the industry changed and new challenges emerged, I found myself navigating one of the most difficult seasons of my life. There were moments of uncertainty, setbacks, and difficult decisions that forced me to reevaluate not only my career but also my identity. When you’ve spent decades building something, starting over can feel overwhelming.
I had a choice: remain attached to what was or embrace what could be.
I chose to begin again.
At an age when many people are considering retirement, I stepped into the online business world with little technical knowledge but a strong desire to continue serving others. I learned new skills, embraced social media, and pushed through the discomfort of becoming visible online.
One of the greatest lessons I learned during this season was that resilience isn’t about never falling, it’s about continuing to move forward even when the path isn’t clear.
There were times when I questioned myself. Times when progress felt slow. Times when I wondered if I was starting too late. But each challenge strengthened my belief that reinvention has no expiration date.
Through those experiences, I discovered that many entrepreneurs struggle not because they lack knowledge or talent, but because internal barriers like fear, self-doubt, and inconsistency keep them from fully stepping into their potential.
Those lessons eventually inspired me to create The ALIGN Method™, a framework that helps entrepreneurs build businesses with greater confidence, clarity, and alignment.
Today, one of the things I am most proud of is not simply the business I’ve built, but the person I’ve become in the process. My journey has taught me that resilience is not about avoiding change, it’s about trusting yourself enough to grow through it.
If there’s one message I hope others take from my story, it’s this: your greatest chapter may still be ahead of you. No matter your age or circumstances, it’s never too late to reinvent yourself, pursue a dream, or create a meaningful impact.
