Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Takora Burton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Takora thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
The inspiration for most of my artwork came from my love for mythology, magic and nature. Aphrodite Rises became my creative destiny because of a vision I had of the Goddess Aphrodite rising out of the sea telling me to make jewelry out of seashells to make all beings feel beautiful and able to radiate the beauty of oceanic energy within themselves. The Earth provides us with all the currency we need to succeed. I want all people to feel glamorous without spending too much money, while also giving thanks to earth and the elements around us. I knew this would be a worthwhile endeavor because in the little mountain town I live in, I wanted to bring the mermaid magic in for those who long for the water elemental and the sea, while visiting or moving from, the ocean energy can always be carried with them through the jewelry I create. I do not create for the act of money but for the act of magic and respect of the beauty nature contains for us, manifested into an object we can relate to and visually express in an artistic fashion.

Takora , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a small town girl from Asheville North Carolina, here in the Appalachian mountains we take tradition and magic seriously, many of us that grew up here are familiar with folktales and folk magic traditions brought over from the Celtic and Germanic peoples. Growing up with this peculiar interest, the mountain folk and I radiate the sacred energy of these mountains and I wanted to bring this magic to the sea and stretch it as far wide as possible. Magical jewelry is my passion and nothing brings me more joy then hearing and seeing my clients radiate the exact energy I manifested into my charms, I love it when people feel beautiful and confident and everyone deserves that! The jewelry I create is a direct channel to ancient earth magic and traditions and has been sold all over The United States of America, my dream is to one day bring this jewelry out of the country and photograph them at ancient sites, such as the Temple of Aphrodite in Corinth Greece. My most proud accomplishment is being able to have my jewelry sold in metaphysical and art shops all over the town I grew up in, seeing my jewelry in stores was a grand sight to see! You can find most of my jewelry in Asheville’s oldest pagan metaphysical shop, Asheville Raven and Crone, more stores to come soon! Along with my magical jewels, I also provide professional tarot readings and spells, you can find these services on my Instagram @aphroditerises along with paintings as well! I think what sets my business apart from others is that I’m not in it for the money, I’m in it for the joy and beauty it brings to people when they see and get to wear my one of a kind works, it makes my clients feel like it was made for them and that’s exactly what I make it for.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is that it is a way for my soul to break freely from the constructs of societal pressure and bring real life magic into the mundane. I get to express myself fully and completely when I make my art, it gives me purpose and authenticity in this very programmed world.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal for this business is to eventually have my own metaphysical shop, where multiple small town artists can have a safe space for their artwork and authenticity without feeling misunderstood or lonely in their interests. I want to form a magical and artistic community where people can feel seen and heard with respect and truth.
