We were lucky to catch up with Shawn Douglas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shawn , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
As a Hiphop musician there’s always a certain perception people place on you! With that being said Hiphop is not just a negative aspect music is to make people feel and escape it’s relatable to individuals who live that life style and to inspire. Depending on the artist and content you consume it’s a different experience for everyone. Hiphop usually gets a bad rep because most people think drugs, violence, when in reality that’s not Hiphop it’s comes in many different sounds and imagery. So when people find out I’m a musician that does Hiphop sometimes it can be frowned upon without even knowing my character or getting to know me as a person. But at the end of the day it’s entertainment but for me it’s life!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Well I’m Shawn Douglas a musician that’s signed to an independent label with over 100 million in streams across the world. I make Hiphop music mixed with a verity of mainstream to underground music. Also a Realtor in Northeast Ohio! With music I tend to mix it up with my sounds some lyrical conscious rap, to RnB, to mainstream Hiphop. I have songs played on the radio also along with 50 plus music videos.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My resilience I took the Real Estate exam 22 times before passing to become licensed if I have my mind set I’m going to do it! Most people would have gave up by the 3rd time but I knew what I wanted and my goals I wanted to reach which I will!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Most rewarding feeling is just when someone can relate or support in any way shape or form! It gives me fuel to keep going!
