We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Pavish Patel a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Pavish thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was deciding to step into the world of DJing and live entertainment, particularly in the Bollywood and Garba scene, where reputation is everything, and opportunities have to be earned.
When I first started, I wasn’t an established DJ with a large following or years of industry experience. I was passionate about music, loved the energy of Bollywood and Garba events, and believed I could create memorable experiences for people, but there was no guarantee that others would see that potential. The South Asian event industry is highly relationship-driven, and many organizers prefer to work with DJs they already know and trust. Breaking into that environment meant putting myself out there and risking rejection, criticism, and the possibility that the investment of time and money wouldn’t pay off.
I remember taking on opportunities that were far outside my comfort zone. Every event carries pressure because a DJ isn’t just playing songs—you’re responsible for the atmosphere of the entire night. Whether it was a Garba event where hundreds of dancers were relying on the music to maintain energy and rhythm, or a Bollywood party where guests expected seamless transitions and crowd engagement, there was very little room for error.
The risk wasn’t only performing in front of large audiences. It was also investing in equipment, spending countless hours preparing playlists and edits, networking with organizers, and saying yes to opportunities before I felt completely ready. There were moments when I questioned whether I was taking on too much, especially when balancing other responsibilities while trying to build a name for myself.
What made the risk worthwhile was the growth that came from it. Each event taught me something new about reading a crowd, adapting in real time, and delivering under pressure. Over time, I started building relationships, earning repeat bookings, and gaining confidence in my ability to create experiences that people genuinely enjoyed.
The outcome wasn’t just becoming a better DJ. It was learning that meaningful opportunities often come from stepping into situations where success isn’t guaranteed. By taking that risk, I developed skills in leadership, communication, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving that extend far beyond music.
Looking back, choosing to pursue DJing was a risk because there was no clear roadmap and no promise of success. But it taught me that growth happens when you’re willing to put your work in front of people, accept feedback, and keep improving. The experience has made me much more comfortable with uncertainty and much more willing to take initiative when opportunities arise.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Pavish Patel, and I am a Bollywood and Garba DJ passionate about creating unforgettable experiences through music, culture, and community. What started as a love for music and South Asian celebrations eventually evolved into a profession that allows me to bring people together and create moments they will remember for years.
Growing up, music was always a major part of my life. I was fascinated by how the right song at the right moment could completely transform the energy of a room. Whether it was Bollywood hits played at family gatherings, Garba music during Navratri, or dance tracks at weddings and parties, I became increasingly interested in the role music plays in bringing people together. Over time, that interest developed into a passion for DJing.
I entered the industry because I saw an opportunity to blend modern entertainment with cultural traditions. Bollywood and Garba events require much more than simply playing music. Every audience is different, every event has its own personality, and every celebration carries unique expectations. I was drawn to the challenge of reading a crowd, creating energy, and building a musical journey that connects with people across generations.
Today, I provide DJ and entertainment services for a wide range of events, including weddings, receptions, sangeets, Garba nights, corporate events, cultural festivals, private parties, and community celebrations. My goal is not simply to play music but to create an atmosphere where people feel connected, engaged, and excited to participate. Whether I am performing for a small private gathering or a large-scale cultural event, I approach each event with the same commitment to professionalism and excellence.
One of the biggest problems I solve for clients is helping them create an event that people genuinely remember. Many events have great venues, decorations, and food, but the entertainment is what ultimately drives the energy of the celebration. I work closely with organizers and clients to understand their vision and ensure that the music aligns with the mood they want to create. From carefully curated playlists and smooth transitions to crowd interaction and energy management, I focus on delivering an experience rather than simply providing a service.
What I believe sets me apart is my ability to blend tradition with innovation. I have a deep appreciation for the cultural significance of Bollywood and Garba music while also understanding modern trends and audience preferences. This allows me to create sets that resonate with both younger and older generations. I take pride in reading the crowd in real time and adapting to the moment rather than relying on a predetermined playlist. Every event is unique, and I believe the music should reflect that.
I am also proud of the relationships I have built within the community. The South Asian event industry is built on trust, reputation, and word-of-mouth referrals. Earning repeat bookings and referrals from clients is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work because it reflects the confidence people place in me to help make their most important celebrations successful.
Of all my accomplishments, I am most proud of the impact my work has on people. There is something incredibly rewarding about seeing a dance floor full of people enjoying themselves, watching families celebrate together, or hearing clients talk about how much they loved the atmosphere at their event. Those moments are what motivate me to continue growing and improving.
For potential clients, followers, and event organizers, the most important thing to know about me is that I care deeply about every event I am involved in. I understand that weddings, cultural celebrations, and special occasions are once-in-a-lifetime moments for many people. I do not take that responsibility lightly. My goal is always to deliver a professional, high-energy, and memorable experience that exceeds expectations.
At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief: great music brings people together. Through Bollywood, Garba, and cultural entertainment, I strive to create experiences that celebrate community, culture, and connection while leaving lasting memories for everyone involved.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Absolutely. Looking back on my creative journey as a Bollywood and Garba DJ, there are several resources and lessons I wish I had discovered earlier.
The first is the value of mentorship and networking within the event industry. When I started, I spent a lot of time trying to figure everything out on my own—from equipment choices and sound setup to pricing, contracts, and client management. Connecting with experienced DJs, event professionals, and entertainment companies earlier would have accelerated my growth and helped me avoid many common mistakes.
I also wish I had better understood the business side of DJing from the beginning. Many creative professionals focus heavily on developing their craft, which is important, but success also requires understanding branding, marketing, customer service, sales, contracts, and relationship building. Learning how to position yourself professionally can be just as important as technical skill.
Another resource I wish I had utilized sooner is content creation and social media. In today’s entertainment industry, your online presence often serves as your portfolio. Sharing event highlights, crowd reactions, mixes, and behind-the-scenes content helps potential clients understand your style and energy before they ever meet you. Building that digital presence earlier would have helped me reach more people and grow my brand faster.
From a technical perspective, I wish I had spent more time studying crowd psychology and event flow. The best DJs are not simply playing songs; they are reading the room, understanding audience behavior, and knowing how to create and sustain energy throughout an event. Learning from recordings of successful events and observing experienced performers provided insights that no equipment tutorial could teach.
Most importantly, I wish I had realized sooner that growth comes from taking action rather than waiting until everything feels perfect. Early in my journey, I sometimes felt I needed more experience, better equipment, or additional preparation before pursuing certain opportunities. In reality, many of the most valuable lessons came from performing at events, making mistakes, receiving feedback, and continuously improving.
If there’s one resource I would recommend to anyone starting a creative journey today, it’s finding a community of people who are already doing what you aspire to do. The knowledge, support, and perspective you gain from those relationships can save years of trial and error and help you grow both personally and professionally.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the ability to create experiences that bring people together and leave a lasting impact. As a Bollywood and Garba DJ, my work goes beyond music—it’s about creating moments, memories, and connections.
There is something incredibly special about watching a dance floor come alive. Whether it’s a bride and groom celebrating with their families, friends reuniting at a cultural event, or an entire community dancing together during Navratri, music has a unique ability to unite people regardless of age, background, or experience. Knowing that I played a role in creating those moments is what makes this work so fulfilling.
One of the things I love most is seeing people fully immersed in the experience. When a crowd responds to a song, sings along to a Bollywood classic, or keeps dancing long after they planned to leave the floor, it’s a reminder of the power music has to create joy and connection. Those reactions can’t be manufactured—they’re genuine, and they’re what I work hard to create at every event.
I also find it rewarding to help preserve and celebrate culture through music. Bollywood and Garba are more than entertainment; they are traditions that connect generations and communities. Being able to blend those cultural roots with modern sounds and create an experience that resonates with both younger and older audiences is something I take great pride in.
Beyond the events themselves, one of the most meaningful rewards is hearing from clients after a celebration. When someone tells me that guests are still talking about the event weeks later, or that the energy exceeded their expectations, it reinforces why I do what I do. Those moments remind me that my work contributes to some of the most important celebrations in people’s lives.
Ultimately, the most rewarding part of being a creative is knowing that what you create can make people feel something. Whether it’s excitement, nostalgia, happiness, or a sense of belonging, having the opportunity to positively impact people’s experiences through music is something I never take for granted.
