Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to TattzbyRed. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi TattzbyRed, thanks for joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Yes, I’ve been able to earn a full-time living from tattooing, and honestly, I was fortunate enough that I never really felt the need to work another job after getting started.
That doesn’t mean it was easy from day one, but I came into the industry hungry and treated it like a career from the start. I spent a lot of time developing my skills, building my portfolio, and making sure every client left happy. Early on, I realized that good work speaks for itself, but great client experiences create repeat business and referrals. That helped me build momentum pretty quickly.
Some of the biggest milestones were filling my schedule consistently, raising my rates as my work improved, and eventually having clients seek me out specifically for my style rather than just looking for the cheapest tattoo. Once that started happening, I knew I was building something sustainable.
As the years went on, I learned that tattooing is equal parts art and business. Creating quality tattoos is the foundation, but marketing, networking, social media, customer service, and managing your finances are what allow you to turn talent into a long-term career.
Looking back, I think I could have accelerated my growth by investing more into the business side earlier and being more intentional with branding and content creation. I spent a lot of time focused on improving my tattooing, which is important but building a recognizable brand is what really helps separate you from everyone else.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success in a creative field rarely happens overnight. Even when things are going well, consistency is what keeps them going. Every tattoo, every client interaction, and every post is an opportunity to build your reputation, and over time those small efforts compound into a full-time career.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Freddrick Scott, and I’m a tattoo artist who has been professionally tattooing for about four years. Art has always been something I’ve been drawn to, but tattooing stood out because it allowed me to create something meaningful that people carry with them for the rest of their lives. What started as a passion quickly became a career and eventually a business.
I specialize in creating custom tattoos that help people tell their stories, honor important moments, express themselves, or simply wear artwork they’re proud of. One of the things I love most about tattooing is that no two clients are exactly alike. Every tattoo has a different meaning, and every project presents a new creative challenge.
When people come to me, they’re often looking for more than just a tattoo. They’re looking for someone who can take an idea that’s been sitting in their head and bring it to life. My job is to listen, understand their vision, and create something that feels unique to them. Whether it’s a memorial piece, a large-scale custom design, or a first tattoo, I take pride in making sure clients feel comfortable and confident throughout the process.
What I believe sets me apart is my dedication to both the artwork and the experience. I focus heavily on communication, professionalism, and making sure my clients feel heard. Anyone can put ink in skin, but creating a piece that someone will love for decades requires trust, attention to detail, and genuine care for the client.
One thing I’m especially proud of is being able to build a full-time career doing what I love. I was fortunate enough to gain momentum early in my career and have been able to focus entirely on tattooing. That didn’t happen by accident—it came from constantly improving my craft, putting myself out there, and treating every client interaction as an opportunity to build my reputation.
As for my brand, I want people to know that I’m always striving to grow. I’m committed to becoming a better artist with every tattoo I do. My goal is to create work that not only looks great today but still means something to my clients years from now. At the end of the day, I want people to leave my chair with a tattoo they’re proud to wear and an experience they’ll remember for the right reasons.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, one of the most rewarding aspects of being a tattoo artist and creative entrepreneur is the freedom that comes with it. Being able to build a career around something I’m genuinely passionate about is a blessing. I get to create for a living, make my own opportunities, and have a level of independence that a lot of people spend their lives searching for.
Of course, the art itself is a huge part of what makes it rewarding. I enjoy taking a client’s idea and turning it into something they’ll wear for the rest of their life. There’s a lot of trust involved in tattooing, and it’s always an amazing feeling when someone chooses you to create something that meaningful.
I also love the fact that every day is different. Every client has a unique story, vision, and personality, which keeps the work fresh and challenging. Tattooing constantly pushes me to improve creatively and technically, and I enjoy that process of growth.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my social media audience wasn’t something that happened overnight. It was really the result of showing up consistently, posting my work, and letting people follow my journey as I grew as an artist.
When I first started, I didn’t have thousands of followers or viral posts. I focused on documenting my work, posting regularly, and making sure every tattoo I shared represented the quality I wanted to be known for. Over time, people started recognizing my style, sharing my work, and recommending me to friends. As my tattoos improved, my audience naturally grew alongside my client base.
One thing that helped me was realizing that social media isn’t just about posting tattoos—it’s about building relationships. I made an effort to engage with people, respond to messages, share behind-the-scenes content, and let my personality show. People don’t just follow artists because of the artwork; they follow because they connect with the person behind it.
For anyone just starting out, my biggest advice is to be consistent and patient. A lot of artists get discouraged because they don’t see immediate results, but social media is a long game. Focus on improving your craft, creating quality content, and posting regularly. Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle or end.
