We recently connected with Montae Harris and have shared our conversation below.
Montae, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
Man, my first paid gig was a podcast we did with Evo! We had the whole podcast setup in a private room and it was so dope. We had food, drinks, the whole deal. Honestly, it changed my whole perspective on this podcast thing and made me realize what it could really become. Then right after that, we had a clothing brand sponsor us Wolves Only Training. That’s when it really started feeling real.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Montae Harris, host and founder of the QMO Podcast. I’m a former professional basketball player who transitioned into media and content creation after my playing career ended. Through my podcast, I help athletes, entrepreneurs, and community leaders share their stories and grow their brands.
What sets me apart is my ability to build genuine relationships and create authentic conversations that people connect with. I’m most proud of building QMO Podcast into a platform that highlights inspiring people and positive stories. At the end of the day, my mission is simple: create opportunities, inspire others, and help people tell their story.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience by staying consistent and focusing on relationships. In the beginning, not many people were watching, but I kept posting content, showing up at events, interviewing interesting people, and networking with others in my community. Over time, those connections turned into opportunities, collaborations, and a growing audience.
My biggest advice for someone just starting is to be consistent and don’t get discouraged by low views or engagement. Focus on creating valuable content, telling authentic stories, and building real relationships. Social media growth doesn’t happen overnight, but if you stay committed and continue improving your craft, the audience will come.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
One thing I wish I knew earlier was the importance of personal branding and content distribution. Creating great content is only half the battle you also have to learn how to market it. I also wish I had learned sooner about tools that help repurpose content, automate workflows, and analyze audience data. Those resources can save a lot of time and help creators grow faster. Most importantly, I wish I understood earlier that networking and building relationships can be just as valuable as the content itself.
