We recently connected with Guillermo Ursini and have shared our conversation below.
Guillermo, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about one of the craziest things you’ve experienced in your journey so far.
I moved with my family from Argentina to Miami in the USA in 2017, seeking to advance my career as a sound engineer. I truly never imagined that my dream would come true, step by step. From arriving with two suitcases, some equipment, and a lot of enthusiasm, to participating in productions with Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Sylvester Stallone, Messi, and many more, doing what I love: “sound in audiovisual productions.”

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
come from a small town in northern Argentina, very close to Iguazu Falls. From a young age, I was always connected to the world of sound. I started as a DJ at 15, and in the 90s I worked in digital sound editing. Later, I moved into radio, where I was the director of two FM stations. In 2004, I discovered sound in film, which truly captivated me. I studied extensively and specialized while working on sound recording for films, series, and documentaries. I felt the need to expand my horizons, so I decided to move to the USA.
The early days were tough. Although I had experience, degrees, awards, and knowledge… nobody knew me. I slowly began connecting with production companies that gave me opportunities to work, and from there I haven’t stopped growing. Proving I could go the extra mile opened doors for me to work on award-winning films, short films, documentaries, TV series, reality shows, commercials, and more. In the beginning, I mostly worked in the Hispanic market because I didn’t speak English very well. Later, with more tools and knowledge, I was able to start working in the English-speaking market as well, which opened up bigger possibilities and even allowed me to work for production companies in other countries like England, Canada, Germany, Iceland, Italy, and many Latin American countries.
It’s a little difficult to define myself, but I think what my clients like is that I always give 100%. I contribute everything I can from my area of expertise, and I always help others to make things work, and that’s highly valued. I know that in this country the rule is that everyone does their part, I need to always help others, it’s in my DNA, to give service, because everything you do comes back to you amplified.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I believe what fuels my mission is my constant hunger to learn something new. Even though I’m 53, every day I’m researching new things, learning new skills, or improving every detail of my service. I think the key is to be motivated and eager to keep improving, contributing, and maintaining a positive attitude. While difficult times seem to be coming due to the advancement of AI, the best thing is to be prepared, learn, and master the technologies that will allow us to stay in the game!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lessons I need to unlearn are the ones that limit us. I come from South America, where we often lack many things and are raised in a context of scarcity where money is often frowned upon. In my experience, breaking those beliefs has given me the freedom to experiment and try new things, and it has truly worked for me.
