We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tokyo Japan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tokyo , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?

I’m not making money at the moment, but before I was making little money with monetization but? The stopped the monetization. I wasn’t making a living but I was getting $150, $50, $90 randomly during the month it was kinda cool but it wasn’t often. I use to post beats on YouTube & did a lot off stuff on IG in the past that gain a lot off attraction, I had some fued with famous. rappers you don’t even know about cuz of scams lol.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

My names Tokyo Japan I got into making beats because I was inspired by artist when I was younger, I always wanted to produce the biggest record on the radio, I started making beats and started getting deeper in the music on twitter. Found big producers that where underground that produced for artist like Rick Ross, Chris brown, the game etc But it was hard to get in with anybody so I started traveling to atl, Chicago etc and worked with a lot off ppl in the past and meeting artists in Atlanta it’s a very long story but consistency and trying to figure it out and my YouTube blew up with a video of 200K views all real for beats I had a lot off artist that used to buy my beats.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?

To create something that helps the youth invest and get a profit for supporting the movement that’s my moto.
