Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Roberta Spindel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Roberta, appreciate you joining us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
I always knew I would be a singer. Since I was five years old, I used to say that I would become a singer and an actress. But music was always my true calling.
Interestingly, it was musical theater that gave me the opportunity to record my first album in Los Angeles. I was performing in a musical, and my character began attracting a lot of attention whenever I sang “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.” Almost every performance was met with applause in the middle of the scene, and reviews and articles about it started appearing in local newspapers.
Soon after, I was invited to record my first album alongside renowned American musicians, including bassist Neil Stubenhaus, drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, guitarist Tim Pierce, and acoustic guitarist Ramon Stagnaro, among others.
I started appearing in television commercials at the age of two. I have always loved drawing and painting, and I also began studying ballet when I was five years old.
I believe that all forms of art are interconnected and come from the same inner creative source, although each person tends to gravitate toward a particular artistic expression. In my case, it has always been music that completely captivated me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started singing at the age of 14, although my artistic career began much earlier. At five years old, I became a Human billboard and commercial actress for Brazil’s largest television network. By the age of 16, I was a finalist in one of the country’s most prestigious original music festivals.
Soon after, I became part of the cast of numerous musical theater productions and television programs. My first album, recorded in the United States, was featured in several Brazilian television dramas and included a special appearance by Caetano Veloso. The project also earned me nominations in the Best New Artist category at major music awards.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of recording with some of the most respected names in Brazilian music, including Ney Matogrosso, Renato Teixeira, and Zeca Baleiro.
I also had the honor of opening for Demi Lovato. After my performance, she came to my dressing room to personally congratulate me and give me a hug, saying that she had been deeply touched by my music.
In my songwriting, I often explore existential themes. My writing and performances tend to be deeply visceral and emotionally honest, yet, interestingly, they are almost always infused with a sense of lightness and hope.
I believe music has an extraordinary power to transform. It reaches inner spaces that nothing else can access. It heals, it opens doors, and it creates connection. I feel called to explore those spaces, both within myself and within my audience. In fact, I believe that when we truly connect with ourselves, we naturally touch others as well.
My greatest joy is being moved by a song and witnessing the audience sharing that emotion with me.
I am deeply grateful for everything I have achieved so far because I have managed to remain faithful to who I am and to the values and artistic vision I believe in.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding part of my profession is being able to be who I truly am.
I feel that in many careers, people spend years trying to figure out what they want to do. In the arts, however, we often know from a very early age. It is something inherent to the artist—a calling. Even knowing all the challenges that come with it, an artist cannot truly deny that calling. And when they try to, art has a way of continually presenting opportunities that draw them back. There is something very special about knowing who you are from such an early stage in life.
At the same time, I find it paradoxical that we can spend our lives being ourselves while still not fully knowing who we are. We discover that gradually throughout our journey. Music, however, seems to accelerate that process because we are born with this essential part of ourselves already in place.
Another deeply rewarding aspect is the emotion we experience and inspire in others. It is about touching something abstract, something that has no material value. It is an experience that transcends the physical world and connects us to something greater.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I believe every artist has to be resilient because the journey is never linear. We’re constantly experiencing ups and downs, so if you’re only in it for success, you won’t be able to keep going. The process is about building a body of work and drawing from that essence to sustain your life and creativity.
What’s most challenging about success is that the more you gain, the more you have to lose. So you have to move through life as if you had nothing. Because, in truth, you really don’t. Everything is temporary and borrowed. The practice is to keep living, appreciating the scenery along the way, doing your best in each moment, and then letting that moment go so the next challenge can arrive.
I’ve always had many important achievements throughout my career, and I’ve often felt that people expected me to accomplish more and more. At the same time, there have been periods of drought along the way—and that’s completely normal.
I consider myself fortunate not to be dazzled by fame. I know it’s fleeting. What truly fascinates me is what I’m building. Of course, I’m proud of everything I’ve achieved, and I’m deeply happy about it. I remain grateful for every step of the journey.
