We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ginger Britt Daniels a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ginger Britt thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I would say the most meaningful project to me right now has been developing my female led feature thriller film, Cat Cat Mouse. It has been quite the journey, and really it’s only just begun. I wrote the screenplay in 2022 and over the past few years have received positive notes and script accolades in various screenplay competitions. This prompted me to make a short proof of concept of the film last August/September in South London, UK with some very talented British cast and crew. I attended Berlinale, the European Film Market for the first time in Berlin just this February and am now heavily into development of the feature version of my film. In addition to all of this, the short version of the film has won three awards for me as the character, Helen for lead actress, one award for my script, one award for the 30 second trailer of the film, and a nomination for best song, which I arranged and sang over the end credits. To say I am anything but beyond ecstatic as an actor/writer/producer would be an understatement. The film is exciting, action packed, full of an ensemble of fun characters, dramatic and funny, and takes place in my favorite part of the world, London. I cannot wait for what is still to come and to actually get to make the feature. We are currently looking for funding and private equity investors.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I started working as an actor 3 decades ago in New York City theatre. I was fortunate and always multi-faceted as a performer. I act, I sing, I dance, and I play the drums so all of that came to be useful to me as I was navigating my way and auditioning in my early career. I have worked across all mediums of tv, film, and theatre, I have toured both in Broadway musicals and as a drummer in a couple of all female bands. I have written a catalogue of music, I play piano as well, and fronted my own Ginger Daniels Band. Finally, I have written two successful short films and produced four short films in total under my GingerPants Productions LLC banner in Los Angeles where I am based. I am super proud of all that I’ve accomplished, and also proud of myself for coming back to it all after leaving it behind for a number of years. That time I had away from acting helped me to discover what it was I truly wanted, and I grew as a human being as a result of that, and I believe I am better for it. I work hard, but you have to have joy for what you do as well or it doesn’t work. I consider myself very lucky, mostly because of the person I’ve grown into.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing about being a creative artist is how we can touch someone else’s life with our art, sometimes without even knowing it. When I watch other actors I get inspired by their performances for a myriad of reasons that generally have to do with the parts of themselves that they’ve brought to their character. I love how we all can feel something from watching a really great performance that comes from the truth of the actor inside the role. I think anyone who loves to watch tv, film, or theatre can easily relate to something a character has touched on in their own heart. That is magic, and why I love being an actor and in turn writing characters for other actors to play as well.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have overcome a lot of obstacles throughout my life thus far, but I think the setbacks, though difficult can make you stronger if you choose to be a survivor. We all encounter hard times, but it’s what we do with the cards we’ve been dealt that matters. When I was in my thirties I suffered through quite a bit of personal tragedy, and I felt very lost at that time. I was mostly going through the motions, largely because I had given up what was most important to me, my acting career. I didn’t realize that at the time, but going through all of that hardship made me see what I needed most. Even though it was painful, I needed to go through all of that to truly be able to do what I am doing now for my career and also to be a more grounded human.
