Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to David Kahn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
David, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I’ve toured Europe on an arena tour with one of Elvis Presleys band mates of over 1000 concerts. Currently I am writing and performing my original music around the world as a soloist and in bands showcasing my vocal range of over 6 octaves based in Austin TX.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Singer/Songwriter with one of the largest vocal ranges of anyone alive from street corners to international arena tours. I do stand up comedy and skateboard semi-professionally traveling in a custom luxury van for 7 years from the southern coasts of Mexico through northern coasts of Canada and everywhere in between now settling in Austin TX. I’ve amassed a respectable following around the world on social media with some videos hitting over 1 million views/streams.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I don’t think it is purely just from being an artist/creative although that has always been the driving factor but for the way I’ve set up my life now between the music, comedy, skateboarding, vanlife, and social media I have achieved what feels like a level of enlightenment as the quality of my day everyday is so fulfilling. Making a living singing around the world and making people laugh, skateboarding in my free time and spending time with family, it’s a great life.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was 11 years old I started skateboarding. I obsessed over it to the point where I had corporate sponsorships like Nike but around 21 I started to realize the industry of skateboarding was going bankrupt in comparison to where it was when I was growing up and started chasing this dream that was mostly dried up. I quit around 22 and started singing with the same intensity as I was skateboarding. I now have toured around the world in arenas and continue to make a living playing around Austin TX booming music scene currently. Although it was very difficult to make that pivot I now look back and am incredibly grateful that I followed that crazy left turn.
