We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Heather Heath a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Heather, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I definitely wish I could have started my career earlier, and more organized at the start!
When I started Sugared Edge I didn’t think it would go very far, I had a toddler, I enjoyed baking, I enjoyed art, I didn’t realize how far I would fall- just completely head over heels in Love with this career.
I definitely feel like i should have taken more chances at the start.
No matter what, I’m proud of what I’m doing.

Heather, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi! I’m Heather Heath, the cake artist behind Sugared Edge Bakery, where I’ve spent the last 14 years turning baking into an unconventional art form. Driven by a love for gothic, spooky, and alternative aesthetics, I founded Sugared Edge to prove that luxury cake design doesn’t have to play it safe. I specialize in custom, boundary-pushing edible art—from moody, elegant wedding masterpieces to designs inspired by 80s horror and witchy themes.
What truly sets my brand apart is that we completely eliminate the compromise between breathtaking design, incredible flavor, and strict dietary restrictions. I specialize in premium gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan baking, smashing the stereotype that allergy-friendly cakes can’t look or taste phenomenal.
I’m incredibly proud of building a business that stays fiercely true to its niche while serving and giving back to our community. If there is one thing I want potential clients and fans to know, it’s this: never be afraid to bring your wildest, most unconventional ideas to the table. At Sugared Edge, we don’t do boring, and we don’t do compromises your milestones deserve a creation as bold and unforgettable as you are.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The best support to me are things like sharing on social media, word of mouth to friends, paying your artist friends for thier work.
It’s not about money for support. Shout your artist friends business from the rooftops (as you would your favorite celebrity brands).
Invest in them when you can. Interact with their pages.
Show up to events!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the most rewarding things about my line of art is probably giving an experience to people that may never have been able to before.
Countless times I have had people contact me because of a child’s food allergy, a friend’s restriction, a celiac bride. I have made SO MANY cakes for people that never would have had the opportunity. All because I have the knowledge and skill to create something safe, delicious, and beautiful.
That’s rewarding.
Some people say it’s just cake, but there is so much magic wrapped up in moments like cake.
