We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jeremiah Brinkley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jeremiah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
The biggest risk I’ve ever taken was leaving the company I had been with for 12 years to start Jeremiah Brinkley Music.
To understand why that was such a big step, you have to go back a little. Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a musical family and was on a stage and behind a microphone by the time I was five years old. I spent years singing in church, performing in theater productions, and eventually serving as a worship pastor. Throughout all of those experiences, I discovered that what I loved most wasn’t simply performing, it was connecting with people and helping create moments that mattered.
In 2012, I entered the wedding and events industry and quickly fell in love with it. DJing gave me a unique opportunity to combine music, creativity, and serving people during some of the most important moments of their lives. A few years later, I joined another entertainment company where I spent the next 12 years growing as a DJ, MC, live musician, and entertainer. I learned so much during those years and had the privilege of performing at hundreds of weddings and events.
From the outside, everything looked comfortable. I had experience, relationships, and stability. But over time, my wife and I both began feeling that God was calling us into something new. It wasn’t a sudden decision. It was something we prayed about, wrestled with, and discussed for a long time. The more we prayed, the more we felt like God was telling us it was time to step out in faith and build something of our own.
The challenge was that starting your own company sounds exciting until you’re the one taking the risk. There were plenty of questions and fears. Would clients follow? Could we make it work financially? Was the timing right? Were we crazy for walking away from something we’d invested so much of our lives into?
At some point, we realized that faith often requires action. We knew the timing was right, and while we didn’t have all the answers, we felt confident that we were being called to take the next step. So we did.
Launching Jeremiah Brinkley Music was one of the most exciting and terrifying experiences of my life. My wife and I had to lean heavily on each other, trust God, and move forward even when the future felt uncertain. There were moments when we didn’t know exactly how things would work out, but time after time we’ve watched God show up in ways we never expected.
Since taking that leap, we’ve seen doors open, opportunities arise, and relationships form that we could never have planned ourselves. More importantly, we’ve been able to build a company that fully reflects our values, our vision, and our heart for serving people.
Looking back, I don’t think the risk was really about starting a business. It was about letting go of fear and being obedient to what we felt God was calling us to do. That’s a lesson I’ll carry with me long after the business itself. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but it has been incredibly rewarding, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Jeremiah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jeremiah Brinkley, and I’m the owner of Jeremiah Brinkley Music, where I provide live music, DJ entertainment, and MC services for weddings and special events throughout Texas and beyond.
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a musical family and was on a stage and behind a microphone by the time I was five years old. That passion eventually led me into ministry, where I served as a worship pastor for several years before entering the wedding and events industry in 2012.
The moment I discovered the wedding industry, I knew I had found my passion. I loved the opportunity to use music to create unforgettable experiences during some of the most important moments in people’s lives. After spending over a decade performing at hundreds of weddings and events as a DJ, MC, and live musician, my wife and I felt called to launch Jeremiah Brinkley Music and build something that reflected our own vision and values.
What sets me apart is that I offer both live music and DJ entertainment. Couples don’t have to choose between the two. Whether it’s live music during the ceremony, cocktail hour, or dinner, followed by a packed dance floor at the reception, I can help create a seamless experience from start to finish.
More than anything, I want clients to know that I care deeply about the people I serve. I don’t believe great entertainment is about the DJ being the center of attention. It’s about understanding each couple’s story and creating moments they’ll remember for the rest of their lives. My goal is to make the planning process easier, the event more personal, and the experience unforgettable.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me. Being invited into such an important day is something I never take for granted, and it’s incredibly rewarding to know that I get to play a small part in memories that will last a lifetime.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe one of the biggest reasons I’ve been able to build a strong reputation in the wedding and events industry is because I’ve always prioritized relationships over transactions.
From the very beginning of my career, I’ve been intentional about building genuine connections with both clients and fellow vendors. I don’t view weddings as just another event on the calendar. Every couple has a unique story, and I want them to feel seen, heard, and cared for throughout the entire process. Taking the time to understand what’s important to them and helping create an experience that reflects who they are has been a huge part of my approach.
The same is true when it comes to vendor relationships. The wedding industry is built on teamwork, and some of the best events happen when talented professionals work together toward a common goal. I’ve always tried to be someone that venues, planners, photographers, videographers, and other vendors enjoy working with and can trust to do my part well.
I also think consistency plays a big role. After performing at hundreds of weddings and events over the years, people know what they’re going to get when they work with me: professionalism, preparation, communication, and a genuine desire to serve people well.
At the end of the day, I think reputation is built one relationship at a time, and I’m incredibly grateful for the clients, vendor partners, and friends in the industry who have trusted me and supported me throughout my journey.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Yes, what started as a side hustle eventually became my full-time career, but it definitely didn’t happen overnight.
From the moment I got my start in the wedding industry in 2012, I knew DJing was something I wanted to pursue long-term. I fell in love with the energy of weddings, the creativity involved in crafting memorable experiences, and the opportunity to be part of such meaningful moments in people’s lives. Even then, I had a dream of making it my full-time career one day.
The challenge was that the wedding industry is built on relationships and trust, and those things take time. Early on, I focused on learning everything I could, improving my craft, and building genuine relationships with clients, venues, planners, photographers, and other vendors throughout the DFW area. I wasn’t looking for shortcuts, I was focused on earning trust and building a reputation for being dependable, professional, and easy to work with.
Over the years, those relationships began to grow. More referrals came in, more venues and vendors started recommending me, and my calendar continued to fill up. Looking back, those relationships were some of the biggest milestones in my journey because they created opportunities that no amount of advertising could have bought.
About five years ago, I reached the point where I was finally able to make DJing and entertainment my full-time career. It was a huge milestone and one I had worked toward for years. Since then, I haven’t looked back.
Today, I’m incredibly grateful that what started as a passion has become a career. I get to do what I love every day, serve amazing clients, and work alongside some of the best professionals in the wedding industry. The journey taught me that success isn’t usually built through one big moment, it’s built through years of consistency, relationships, and showing up for people over and over again.
