We recently connected with Heidi Aderman and have shared our conversation below.
Heidi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I first learned through personal experience. My ideal client is who I was at 27: feeling stuck by life’s demands, lacking the time and energy to pursue my passion for music, and believing my circumstances made success impossible.
Everything started to change when I hired a coach who taught me about limiting beliefs and how our thoughts drive our actions. The clarity I gained unlocked my creativity, helped me connect with fans, and made difficult things feel possible through a shift in perspective.
That led me to study music marketing, sales, and business. Looking back, I would have accelerated my growth by investing sooner in coaching, mentorship, and supportive communities. Accountability would have helped me start my coaching business much earlier.
The most essential skills were developing clarity about what I wanted, understanding how my creative work could generate income, communicating effectively, networking, asking good questions, and setting healthy boundaries.
My biggest obstacle was my own internal dialogue. Negative beliefs, especially around money, kept me trying to do everything myself, which led to burnout. I was so focused on what I couldn’t afford that I overlooked alternatives like bartering, free resources, and supportive communities.
The greatest lesson I learned is that what holds most people back begins with what they believe about themselves, others, and their circumstances. Once you learn to challenge unhelpful beliefs and take intentional action, new possibilities begin to appear. That realization became the foundation of how I help other music professionals today.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Heidi Aderman, and I am a Music Prosperity Coach, singer-songwriter, Positive Intelligence Coach, and founder of Heidzalyn Coaching. My mission is to help musicians and creative professionals build a sustainable, fulfilling career without sacrificing their well-being, relationships, or love of their craft.
Music has been a driving force in my life since childhood. Like many artists, I spent years chasing opportunities, working hard, and believing that success would come if I simply pushed harder. At the same time, I was trying to balance jobs, responsibilities, finances, and life’s demands. I often felt stuck between what I was passionate about and what I thought was realistically possible.
Everything changed when I began working with coaches and studying personal development. I learned how our beliefs shape our decisions, our confidence, and ultimately our results. That shift opened the door to greater creativity, stronger relationships, better communication, and a deeper understanding of how to create opportunities rather than wait for them.
As I continued my own journey, I realized that talent alone is rarely the reason musicians struggle. Many artists are facing challenges with confidence, resilience, business strategy, time management, communication, networking, revenue generation, or simply figuring out which opportunities are worth pursuing. I became passionate about helping others navigate those same challenges.
Today, I work with musicians, producers, songwriters, managers, and other creative professionals who want to build a lasting legacy through their work. Through coaching, training programs, mastermind groups, workshops, and speaking engagements, I help people develop the mindset, business skills, systems, and strategies needed to create a career that supports both their creativity and their life goals.
What sets my work apart is that I combine personal development, business strategy, and music industry experience into one practical framework. I don’t believe success comes from working harder until burnout. I believe it comes from developing resilience, gaining clarity, building meaningful relationships, creating sustainable income streams, and learning how to make aligned decisions.
One of the things I am most proud of is helping people recognize possibilities they could not previously see. Whether that means launching a new project, having a difficult conversation, overcoming self-doubt, developing a new revenue stream, or reconnecting with their purpose, I love watching people move from feeling stuck to taking confident action.
I am also proud of the communities and collaborations I have helped build. Throughout my career I have brought together musicians, coaches, educators, entrepreneurs, authors, and other creatives to learn from one another and create opportunities that would have been difficult to achieve alone. I believe that collaboration often accelerates growth far more effectively than competition.
The most important thing I want people to know about me is that I genuinely believe every challenge contains an opportunity. I have experienced setbacks, disappointments, and obstacles just like the people I serve. What I have learned is that our circumstances do not determine our future nearly as much as our ability to learn, adapt, and take purposeful action.
My goal is not simply to help people become more successful. My goal is to help them build a career and a life they are proud of while making a meaningful impact through their creative work. If I can help someone gain clarity, confidence, and a practical path forward, then I know I am doing the work I was meant to do.
If you’re a musician or creative professional who feels stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of your next step, I’d love to connect with you. Sometimes a single conversation can provide the clarity needed to move forward with confidence.
I offer a complimentary 15 minute discovery call where we can discuss your goals, challenges, and opportunities, and explore whether working together would be a good fit.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In my last year living in Wisconsin, my band Mast was on a mission. Before I moved to Florida, we wanted to accomplish some major goals. We wrote and recorded our album, which was released in August 2014, and played 36 shows around Wisconsin.
There was one opportunity I desperately wanted but wasn’t offered: a large festival featuring five national acts. Many of my friends’ bands were playing it. Instead of waiting to be invited, I found the promoter and reached out.
His response crushed me.
“You missed the deadline. Maybe next year. I’ll come check out your show this weekend.”
The problem was that next year I would be living in Florida. This felt like my last chance.
Earlier in my life, I probably would have spiraled into disappointment. Life isn’t fair. Why does nothing ever work out for me? Maybe I should just give up.
But by then, I had been practicing mental fitness and building resilience. I recognized the downward spiral and refused to let it take over.
The day of the show, I decided I was going to show that promoter exactly what he was missing.
Then another challenge hit. The only people who showed up for our set were the promoter and his friend.
I felt embarrassed. Disappointed. Who is going to hire a band when nobody comes to see them?
That’s when resilience stepped in again.
Instead of letting those feelings control me, I chose to perform as if the room were packed. I put everything I had into that set.
Afterward, the promoter walked up to me and said, “I’ve made a mistake. I have to have you play. Is the first slot okay with you?”
Absolutely.
That festival became one of the highlights of that year. More importantly, it was one of the first times I truly remember overcoming a “no” by taking action instead of hiding. The opportunity wasn’t handed to me. I pursued it, earned it, and proved I belonged there.
The best part? That promoter and I are still great friends today.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I had to unlearn was: “If you work hard, you’ll be successful.”
For years, whenever I wasn’t making enough money or getting the results I wanted, my solution was always the same: work harder. I would take on another job, sacrifice sleep, give up fun, and spend less time with people I cared about.
The result? More burnout and usually the same financial situation.
What I eventually learned is that when something feels hard, that’s often a signal to pause and interrupt the thought pattern. Instead of trying to solve the problem from survival mode, I stop for two minutes and focus on my breathing.
Then I ask myself, “What would make this feel easier?”
That’s it.
To someone watching, it probably looks like I’m doing nothing. Maybe even taking a nap at my desk. But what I’m really doing is creating space for a better solution to emerge.
For a long time, I resisted this practice because it seemed too easy. How could two minutes of breathing possibly create results? Surely success only comes from hard work.
I tried it anyway.
What I discovered is that some of the best answers come from being still, listening, observing, and letting your mind wander without forcing it. When you slow down long enough to be present, grateful, and simply yourself, it becomes much easier to recognize opportunities that were always there but hidden by stress and overwhelm.
Today, I believe success isn’t about working harder. It’s about creating enough space to see the easier path forward. The work hard mantra is always being reinforces and I am still unlearning my old way of doing things. At the top of my to do list every week is a reminder to “be still”.
