We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elizabeth Kezia Widjaja. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elizabeth Kezia below.
Hi Elizabeth Kezia, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My long photograph series. I don’t think I can arrive to the point where I can weave multiple shots or narrative into a long photograph without making single shots prior. The more I capture single shots, the more I question what is the meaning of photographing things. From that thought, the idea to connect narratives through different shots that are being connected together into long photograph emerge.
My first long photograph was actually shot in London using iPhone with only 2 models, and my latest one was about a gkamorous Indonesian wedding with 14 models. This project has taken me on a journey, from experimentation into an opportunity to create a grand piece.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into photography before getting into the web developer role. Most of my published photography works were conceived during COVID. I met, collaborated and assisted other creatives in Hong Kong at that time, and that gradually pulls me towards more creative works.
Getting into the more “formal” web developer role doesn’t diminish my creative work. Instead, it becomes a catalyst for me to think — how can I distinguish myself from other photographer? how can my tech skills bring an interdisciplinary edge to my visual art? My professional background in tech definitely influences me to create a structure before photographing (e.g, the structure is the long photograph format and the concept can be modular) and also injecting the photographs with interactive narrative with creative coding.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
To be part of the forefront that shapes and predicts how people will perceive the world in the future.
My recent project starts to shift away from photographing and move into thinking how photographing will evolve. I created an XR Photography experience where photography becomes an embodied activity.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
To see my work inspires others, whether it is to create or to stimulate a thought they hadn’t thought of.
