Tyraa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about the early days of establishing your own firm. What can you share?
I started doing real estate back in 2005 and quickly found a niche in working with investor clients. My problem with working with investor clients is that I never had a good property management company to refer them to. This is when I knew I had to start my own business managing properties for my clients. The main steps I took what just determining what it took to manage properties. I managed properties from my brokers office for a couple years before opening up my own office once I began to get too big to manage the properties from my small office at the brokerage I worked for.
Challenges I faced once opening up my own office was finding good, dependable help. A lot of help is needed in the property management space and key is finding good workers and treating them good once you find them. Advice to young professionals considering starting their own firm would be to research the business you are starting and talk to others in that space to get advice. I wish I would’ve done that it would have saved me from a lot of challenges and money loss through the beginning years.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Tyraa Nicole.. I started in the industry back in 2005 when I started working for a licensed realtor as his personal assistant. He really taught me everything when it came to being a real estate agent. I obtained my real estate license in 2009 after working off and on for him for 4 years. Once I was licensed I joined a real estate team that really taught me discipline and accountability. I learned early on in my career that I had developed a niche for working with investor clients and the only key that was missing in working with investors was a good property management company. I could never find one so I started my own property management company. When I first started property management I asked myself the question what sets me apart from every other management company and the answer came loud and clear: The difference is, I care. This became my slogan for Tyraa Nicole Property Management. I am most proud of the fact that I do actually care and that comes first, then the money.
We’d appreciate any insights you can share with us about selling a business.
In 2022 I sold my property management company. I learned so much from this experience as it was my first time selling a company. The sale was to be somewhat of a merger meaning everything was to stay the same but the name would just change, The new company even kept some of my employees .. I learned from this that everything dont always go the way you are told they are going to go, I learned that everyone is not honest especially in business, I learned people will take advantage of you in business, I learned to never say Yes to the first offer, I learned that no one will run my business the same way that I run it with care and dignity. Although this deal turned out to be a very bad deal honestly.. what I learned from it is worth any amount of money. I will never settle for less again for something that I have built from the ground up and put all my blood, sweat and tears into and although I feel this was a bad deal I was able to start over and run a business exactly the way I want to run it as well as put into place all the things that I have learned to make it exactly the way that I want it. So to everyone out there I would say never be afraid of taking that leap and taking a chance because if things go wrong, the lessons you learn from it is worth more than gold and you never no .. It could actually go right as well! You win either way when you are doing things in an honest way.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients still is and has been since i started is Referral business and Social Media. Do a good job and people will refer you and once you get new clients and do business share it. and stay consistent. This will help to build your brand and will eventually be what you become known for and will in return get you more business.
