We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ron Evans. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ron below.
Ron, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew from a very young age that I wanted to pursue a creative path. Growing up in Benton Harbor, Michigan, a small city with limited opportunities, I often found myself turning to television, film, and art as a way to explore worlds beyond my own. What began as entertainment quickly became inspiration.
I was captivated by shows and series such as Dragon Ball Z, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Sailor Moon, and even America’s Next Top Model. Each sparked my imagination in different ways and encouraged me to create rather than simply consume. Those early influences led me to explore drawing, cartooning, photography, and writing—creative outlets that allowed me to express myself and make sense of the world around me.
Looking back, those moments were the foundation of the artist and filmmaker I would eventually become. Creativity was never just a hobby for me; it was a way of dreaming bigger than my circumstances and envisioning possibilities beyond what I could see in front of me. That passion has remained with me throughout my life and continues to drive the stories I tell today.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Ron Evans, and I am a filmmaker, artist, and storyteller who loves creating meaningful work across different mediums. At the core of everything I do is a desire to inspire others and contribute to their growth and healing. Through my writing, acting, and producing, I strive to tell stories that challenge, uplift, and connect with people on a deeper level.
One of my proudest accomplishments is being the first person in my immediate family to earn a bachelor’s degree. Beyond that, I’m proud of the journey it took to get there. I left my hometown and moved to Atlanta on my own, while my family remained in the Midwest. Relocating to a new city and state with little more than faith, determination, and a dream wasn’t easy, but it taught me resilience and reinforced my belief in what’s possible when you bet on yourself.
I’ve always felt that I was meant for something greater than my circumstances. Despite the challenges I faced growing up, I never allowed them to define my future. That hunger and ambition still drive me today. My path has taken me from Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Indianapolis, Indiana, and ultimately to Atlanta, Georgia, where I continue to grow and build my career in the film and television industry.
Moving to Atlanta was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. This city has helped shape me mentally, spiritually, and artistically. It has expanded my perspective, exposed me to new opportunities, and allowed me to witness examples of success and Black excellence that have inspired me in profound ways. Atlanta continues to challenge me, motivate me, and remind me that growth happens when you’re willing to step outside of your comfort zone.
Lastly, I am most proud of my upcoming production, The Sorrow: Elated. This project represents a major step forward in my journey as a filmmaker, not only in terms of scale and execution, but also in the depth of storytelling I’m continuing to explore. We are set to begin filming soon, and it feels like a defining moment in putting everything I’ve learned so far into practice. More than just a project, it reflects my ongoing commitment to creating work that is honest, emotionally driven, and impactful.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist for me is the ability to tell stories. Whether they are my own or those of others, in a way that can truly resonate with people. Knowing that my work has the potential to motivate, inspire, or even help someone feel seen gives it a deeper meaning beyond the creative process itself.
On a personal level, being an artist brings me a sense of peace and purpose. It allows me to process my experiences, express what I often can’t put into words, and stay connected to something greater than myself.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think one thing many non-creatives struggle to understand is that creativity isn’t just a hobby or something we do when inspiration strikes, it’s a way of life. Being a creative often means investing countless hours into ideas, projects, and dreams that may not produce immediate results or financial rewards.
Many people see the final film, photograph, painting, or performance, but they don’t always see the years of learning, rejection, self-doubt, networking, and persistence that made it possible. Creativity requires faith, faith in your vision, faith in your abilities, and faith that the work you’re creating will eventually reach the people who need it.
At the same time, creativity serves a much greater purpose in the world. Every idea, movement, story, and cultural shift begins with someone imagining a different possibility. Creativity inspires, challenges perspectives, sparks conversations, and brings beauty into people’s lives. In many ways, it helps move the world forward. Creative work is essential.
