We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emily Singer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emily below.
Emily, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents never raised me to believe that success was not about being the smartest person in the room or getting perfect grades. What they valued most was curiosity, experience, and becoming a well-rounded person. They encouraged me to get a job as soon as I was old enough. Not just for the purpose of earning money, but because they wanted me to learn how to navigate the world, interact with people, and gain confidence.
At the same time, they deeply supported my creative side. They bought me more books than I can count, encouraged my writing from a young age, and exposed me to experiences that expanded my imagination, whether that was horseback riding, traveling, or simply allowing me the freedom to explore who I was. The greatest thing they did was make me feel like creativity was valuable and worth pursuing seriously.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a writer, content creator, and creative director. I graduated from Indiana University with a degree in film and an emphasis on screenwriting. Immediately after school, I went into a writers’ room for a CBS show, where I was an assistant. I got coffees and lunches, but really I was absorbing everything–the rhythm of the room, how stories get built, how decisions get made. What made that experience truly defining was getting the chance to pitch an episode idea that actually later got picked up. I ended up writing it alongside the showrunner and received my first story credit. For someone just starting out, that was an extraordinary thing to be trusted with.
I then went on to work in various jobs in social media, publication, and TV development, before starting my own creative agency and production company, Elsi. In the early days, I worked with brands on social strategy, content, partnerships, and events, and that work is still very much part of what I do. I currently serve as Creative Director for Noah Wood Fragrances, where I help shape the brand’s creative identity across every touchpoint.
What’s shifted over time is that I now find myself more often in front of the camera, collaborating with incredible brands as a content creator, and spending meaningful time writing and developing original IP, like my debut novel, Doll Baby. What I’m most proud of is building a body of work that’s cohesive, built on beauty, but also varied. I want people who discover my work to see that creativity isn’t one-dimensional and you don’t need to be boxed in. If you read my book and then see my brand work, they elicit similar feelings.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I love making things that I’m passionate about and seeing my visions come to life. Right now I feel very drawn to the contradictions of womanhood, identity, navigating modern society in relationships and in careers. Whether I’m writing a novel, directing content, or building a brand’s creative vision, the throughline is always the same. I want the work to feel honest and authentic to its nature. To feel like something real lives inside it.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Getting to collaborate with and learn from smart, creative, amazing humans and being able to express myself through different mediums.
