Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sarah Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sarah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Holyxseis was born from the idea that every person has a little nerdiness in them. Whether you play tabletop roleplaying games, enjoy watching anime, or like to indulge in quirky accessories, you’ll find geeks from all walks of life, and sometimes in the most unexpected places.
From handmade items like our signature Ability Modifier Shot Glasses to curated novelties from anime, horror films, and other geeky fandoms, anyone and everyone can find something to love when they shop at Holyxseis. It’s part of our charm – a grandmother with no interest in typical nerdy goodies can still enjoy our offerings of cute cat enamel pins and moth earrings, while an anime fan can find various types of merchandise from their favorite show.
That’s what drives us – seeing every person who walks into our booth find something that they genuinely like. It’s a feeling that I missed from January 2023 until January 2026. I had once operated Holyxseis on my own, running the business from 2019 until 2023. I had to stop the business because of life changes – I got married, gained a stepson. Then our family moved and I brought a beautiful new little girl into the world in April of 2025.
In November of 2025, my husband Blake and I finally implemented the re-opening of Holyxseis. I had been selling my handmade items on Etsy, but in November we took the real plunge, investing in new stock, business-related necessities, and basically everything you need to re-open a business.
Since our first show in January of 2026, we’ve watched interest in our wares and our business grow at every event. We’ve found that we fit in at everything from comic cons to local market events. My original hypothesis – that everyone has a little nerdiness – has proven correct. I’ve watched a cowboy-type man purchase a set of D&D dice to add to his collection, a father of 6 buy an anime mini-figure for each of his excited children, and a grandmother peruse our goods for fun items to add to her knick-knack collection.
It’s exhilarating to see our customers finding items they never knew existed, watching their excitement and joining in their happiness at finding something that they never expected to come across. I’ll never get tired of it, and now we’re booking up our weekends with plenty of shows so we can continue to supply nerds of all types with Novelties for the Unique Geek!
Sarah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Sarah Jones. I’ve been a practically-card-carrying nerd since I can remember, starting, as many 90’s babies did, with the Pokemon TV show. Over the years, I’ve fallen in love with many aspects of the nerdy side of life. One of the many things that I picked up on is the fun of collecting items related to your favorite nerdy things – everything from plushies to earrings, button pins to wallets, and more.
As a collector of the fun and weird myself, I realized one day that there were limitations to what you could find, especially in smaller towns. The best places you have for finding nerdy stuff outside of major cities is Walmart and the local Gamestop (if that store is even open in your area anymore). I wanted to bring the geekery to the general public, and that’s what I’m doing right now. My husband Blake, another geek, helps me out with choosing what items we carry, where we set up for events, setting up and running the booth at those events, and whatever else he can. Together, we present Novelties for the Unique Geek to anyone and everyone.
Holyxseis mixes handmade items in with curated ones, and we listen to our customers if they’re not finding what they were looking for. Don’t see your favorite anime, movie, game, or other geekery in our shop? We’ll see what we can do so that next time you see us, we have options for you! Even if I have to make it myself, I’m always searching for new ways to indulge as many nerds as possible.
We love Holyxseis because it gives us a chance to connect with others in the nerd-o-sphere and get excited with them when they find something wholly unique to our shop. One day, when we open a store, we have plans to make a space that is inviting and open, somewhere that any nerd can go to be themselves and discover Novelties for the Unique Geek.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Simply, be where they are.
We book as many nerdy conventions as we can because that’s where our clientele will certainly be at that particular weekend. However, we also book up local market events and shows, because everyone is secretly a little nerdy.
If, when, we have a physical location, we’ll still do events every chance we get. People love to see us, and we can directly interact with our clientele to learn how we can improve what we do. Attending events has been a huge help for us in reaching new customers who follow us on social media, check our our website, and ask about other events we’ll be at in the future.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I discovered Grant Cardone and have several of his audiobooks. Cardone can be somewhat controversial, but if you really dig into his media, you’ll find some great advice on sales.
Some of the biggest takeaways I got from his works include always – and actually – trying your best, looking for the positives even when you fail, and learning from your mistakes so you can not make that mistake again. These sound like simple platitudes, but the way he builds up around those ideas really stuck with me.
When I run into problems in my business, or discover that I’ve made a mistake, I take ownership of that mistake and work to make it right. If I feel like I’ve failed at what I’m trying, I take a small break, then give it my all the next time. And when I’m feeling a little lost or down, I just listen to another Grant Cardone book, or re-listen to an old one, and try to soak up his message of trying and trying again.
