Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Robyn Leah Kelly . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Robyn Leah , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The mission at Robyns Sliced Kreations LLC is to bring families together with food, and create happy memories. I believe in today’s microwave society, we don’t eat and cook together like families used to. It’s so easy to call a frozen dinner a meal and continue the separation from the people you love. That’s where I come in as a Chef, I take the stress out of cooking so that everyone can be one with each other.
Robyn Leah , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started cooking at 9 years old in Brooklyn, Ny. I moved out of New York in 2015 to Tampa, Florida to pursue a career in the restaurant industry. It was really hard being a home cook and my first cooking job ever was in a fine dining kitchen at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino. Talk about challenges! I had no knife skills, I didn’t know the basics about being a line cook. This was very different from being in kitchen with my Mother teaching me. When I started at the casino the movie “Creed” just came out in theaters and before every shift, I had to know that I was going into the ring and I would be successful no matter what. I am most proud of the families that I meet and cook for. Being in Florida without my immediate family can be lonely at times, however, I find great happiness in cooking for big families and watching them connect and love on each other over good Brooklyn style soul food or Spanish style Puerto Rican dishes.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn the hard lesson of failure. In the past I was okay with failing. I used to be okay feeling like giving up was an option when it really isn’t. For me, failing was plan b. My old way of thinking was if something doesn’t work out the way I envision it, then it wasn’t meant to be and I would sit in that sadness until I was able to find the courage to try again. Now, I view failure as redirection. If something doesn’t work out for my higher good, I take that “failure” and redirect my foot steps until I find something that works. I never stopped dreaming through any failures and I stay away from negative self talk. That’s very hard to unlearn but it’s possible. I replace the negative self talk with positive affirmations. Yes, I am the greatest Chef ever. That’s my vision for future.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I started building my social media presence by allowing my brand to be seen. Anything I cook, I post it with witty caption and hashtags that will get my content seen. Sometimes people are afraid of social media trolls and being overlooked so they don’t put themselves out there. To have a social media presence you just have to be present. You have to create, you have to have courage. You don’t always have to have the best video equipment and editing skills but you have to try. No one will know about you if you don’t post. I use many social media platforms to market my brand.
