We were lucky to catch up with Stephanie Davis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Stephanie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I strive to exceed my client’s expectations by not only delivering them images that they cherish for a lifetime, but to give them an experience that makes them excited to use my services as they grow their family.
Stephanie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always loved the story behind photographs. Since I was a young girl, I loved hearing everything happening when the images was taken. I guess… I love history!
After dabbling in photography for a while, I was fortunate to have a wonderfully supportive husband, who helped me get everything started. I left my job and hit the ground running. Once I got going, I never stopped. I have been extremely blessed to have been in this industry for over 10 years! My twin boys were able to have me home a lot more and if I was gone working, my husband was home. Now that my children are older, I can still pick them up from school if needed instead of having to ask my boss to leave to pick up a sick kid. I absolutely love the flexibility of raising my family AND do something I love so much!
When reminiscing about your wedding day, each and every images tells YOUR STORY! And I love to be the one to help you tell it. When you book with me, you book an experience. I’m not just someone to snap pictures. I’m an experience. I have laughed with brides, gotten nervous with grooms and almost always crying during the Father/Daughter dance with the moms.
I love couples that KNOW and appreciate the services I offer. I always make sure to spend quality time with potential clients, either in person or via a video chat or phone call. I want to answer any and all questions they might have. I know how tough this decision is to make. It’s quite an investment. One that I take very seriously.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I love attending venue open houses. Not only do I get to meet so many potential clients, but I get to see vendors! Not all of us get to see each other on wedding day. There are times we just pass and high five. But on Open House days, we get to visit and see how business is going with each other. Being invited to an event like that is a huge compliment from the venue owners. Those relationships are truly something I love and take pride in keeping.
Have you ever had to pivot?
In late 2016, only 4 years into my business, my Mom was diagnosed with cancer. Her doctors immediately sent her to MD Anderson and she was scheduled for surgery within a few weeks. Between my house, her health and other family management issues….. something had to give. And it ended up being my business. Luckily, I had plenty of weddings on my books, but my family sessions and Seniors were lacking as I wasn’t pursuing them or really advertising those services. I had so much on my plate, for so long, I had to reintroduce myself to venues to stay relevant in the industry. After about a year, with things calming down, I felt as if I had to start over again. And I did it harder and with more to prove. Although not easy, I am so glad I was able to grow to continue to do something I love.
