We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chiquita Nicole Chambers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chiquita Nicole, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I have always had a passion for health and fitness and hold a bachelor’s degree in Cultural Communication.
In grade school, I played several sports, including volleyball, basketball, and track & field, and have competed in several bodybuilding competitions from 2014 to the present. She’s also a LOVER of music and dance and auditioned for the American Idol in 2018.
With everything I have experienced, it’s now my desire to give back to every beautiful woman (my QUEENS) and pour into them the WEALTH of knowledge I have gained in my experience with life’s challenges and working to overcome them with HEALTH, FITNESS, and WELLNESS in the forefront.
I pride myself on self-love and giving back through EMPOWERMENT and MOTIVATION.
My mission statement is: Empowering CONFIDENCE in women through Health, Fitness & Wellness!
Chiquita Nicole, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Chiquita Nicole Chambers, and I’m known as SassyFit in the fitness industry. I am married to my love, Greg Chambers, and have two sons and four bonus daughters. I am an Air Force Veteran, having served ten years.
My passion for fitness started in grade school, where I played several sports, including volleyball, basketball, and track & field. That passion grew as I got older and began to explore the mental health benefits of working out and having a healthy lifestyle.
As I battled my mental health issues, fitness became my priority. As I grew more confident in my personal growth, I wanted to share the things that worked for me with other women to let them know that they could overcome anything. I tried to make it known that adopting a healthy lifestyle can benefit them in so many ways, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I have many talents and often struggle to figure out what I want to do as a career. I can sing, style hair, dance, write, and more. I started out trying the hairstylist route as an entrepreneur. Still, I quickly realized that I didn’t particularly appreciate sitting in the salon all day waiting for walk-in clients, nor did I like driving around to different hair stores passing out business cards. I often sat on my MacBook on social media, trying to market there, only not to get very far.
I pursued my master’s degree in psychology and counseling because I had a passion for helping people overcome barriers in their life. I had SEVERAL obstacles I had to overcome and have always had an empathetic heart and wanted to help. I was three classes away from graduating, only to find out that I had over 1,000 internship hours that I needed to complete before taking the board exams and would not be able to work.
As a single mother, working was a must, so I had to make a decision, and the decision was to drop out of the program and continue working. Being that, I got extensive training in the field of psychology and loved working out. I decided I would learn to be a personal trainer because I spent many days and hours in the gym coping with my depression, and as a result, people often solicited PT sessions from me, although I wasn’t licensed back then.
I dove into learning about not only fitness but nutrition as well and loved what I was learning. Fast forward to today, I am doing what I love, helping people overcome barriers and teaching them the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I started my business in 2019, I was nervous and doubtful that it would work out. I only had two clients and didn’t know what I would do to grow. I had a few family members who didn’t believe in me, but I decided to dive into self-study about the ins and outs of running a business. I attended several business seminars, spent hours on YouTube, and read extensively to grow my business acumen.
Although money was short, I kept learning and building a presence for myself online and never gave up. Now I am 3 1/2 years in business and couldn’t be happier! I have people reaching out to me for business advice, which always amazes me!
