We were lucky to catch up with Jerry Washington recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jerry thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My name is Jerry with JWASHPRODUCTIONS. My mission is to serve the African American community by helping small businesses excel in spreading their brand by providing quality digital content. I want to help my community understand the importance of having an image consultant and professional content that will can help grow one’s brand!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I got into the industry because I always had love for music, art, and fashion! I love creating taking risks creatively. I stay discipline but effectively planning my photography shoots, and draw a lot of inspiration from my concepts from movies and tv film! Currently, I service all aspects of photography from fashion, real estate, portrait, maternity, wedding, events, and Individual/family shoots! In regard to videography, I have done digital commercials and advertising along with music videos. .
What I am most proud is my ability to create projects with little resources. Video and photography production is very costly for certain quality, but I have been able to excel in implementing art direction in spite of budget constraints.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to own my own production firm where it houses all artistic resources such as photo and film studio, salon for various stylists, and recording studio for musicians and engineers. In addition, I want to own my own talent and management company that specializes in developing music artists, actors, and models.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The biggest lesson in creating art or fashion is to not take things personal when people don’t like your style or art. Art is very subjective and often criticized because people may not understand creative perspective to your project or style choices. Finding clients that love your style and artistic approach will come, but you have to be patient and keep promoting your work!
