We recently connected with Nikki McElwaine and have shared our conversation below.
Nikki, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
“If you risk nothing, then you risk everything.”- Geena Davis
One of my greatest accomplishments is taking a risk, and putting myself out there. Putting myself out there for everyone to see and judge, and be okay with it.
About a year in a half ago, I decided to join a company called Seint Beauty. Being a makeup enthusiest myself, I decided to take a risk of something for myself. After having my second daughter, I decided not to go back to work, and that I wanted to be apart of something that I truly loved; versus doing something much less fulfilling for extra income.
So, I put my introverted self out there. I started teaching makeup application tips, along with sharing information about beauty related topics. Realizing that I was helping women feel the confidence and beauty they deserve, made that risk worth it. Now, I have gained more confidence in myself as a person, and get to help others along the way.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Hi! I’m Nikki McElwaine! Most importantly, I am a momma and wife, and I also teach women. I teach women how to apply makeup, and give tips and tricks about all things beauty. I provide in person makeovers and makeup classes for women of all ages. I also am a Seint Beauty Artist, so most of the products I use are by Seint. Being an Artist, also means that I have the opportunity to sell the wonderful products that I use, and get to build my own team of wonderful women who want to be an Artist as well. If you are looking for something that you can do, to earn a little (or a lot) of an extra income, I would love to walk you through every step.
I am here to teach you that makeup does not have to be hard, it can be really easy and fun. If you have never worn makeup in your life, or need to switch things up, I’m your girl.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect about being an artist is helping women feel beautiful. Teaching them how to apply makeup, and how to accentuate those natural features, or help with the appearance of any insecurities; is very rewarding. Seeing that “ah-ha” moment when they realize that makeup does not have to be intimidating or scary, is a great feeling.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A time when I had to pivot in my career is when I decided to not go back to my old 9-5 job after maternity leave, and start my own journey. I knew that it was time for a change, and time to have a career that was more fulfilling, that allowed me to have a flexible schedule for my kids. Since I have started this journey of being a Seint Artist and Makeup Educator, I am constantly changing and learning how to broaden my business. Trying to figure out how to use several different platforms, and keeping up with current trends is an ever-changing process.
