We recently connected with Kelan Richardson and have shared our conversation below.
Kelan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Growing up I used to feel as though I was behind. Going on social media and seeing somebody doing things that I’ve been trying to break into, because being from North Carolina there’s no fashion scene. I knew I wanted to break into fashion, I just had no clear direction. Fast forward to 2026, I’ve been in my field profit for two years and I’ve worked with celebrities from Neicy Nash to Bebe Rexha and on various projects including campaign, editorial, and commercial. I think it really hit hard for me when I started getting paid because then I knew I was really in it. Looking back, it just wasn’t my time and as a creative sometimes things come in seasons. I used to feel behind now I feel like my career has jump started from one big thing to the next and it’s only the beginning. My time is now!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started out as a stylist but that has since evolved as I am now managing an artist, creative directing and even doing a bit of costume film work. Recently, I got into the music field by managing an emerging artist and I found that a great way for me to expand my work. I help artist shape and curate their visual identities which I find super cool and fun. I think the most proudest thing is me managing the artist because I’m literally behind everything from creative directing the music video, producing, handling logistics, and still finding the time to style the artist through it all. I get to go all in as she is my artist but also acts as my muse. It’s like having my Zendaya to my Law.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think society could organically support artists by literally doing anything that relates. Whether that’s liking or commenting on a post, shouting them out, telling a friend to tell another friend or by simply indulging in what the creative has to offer.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing (for me) is finishing a product, seeing that idea come to life and peoples reaction to said idea. I don’t need validation when it comes to my art but I personally know my work is good so it does make me feel good inside to see peoples reactions/viewpoints.
Another rewarding that most don’t talk about is being able to meet and build a community around so many other dope artist/creatives, cause we’re all in this together!
