We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rockstar Payso. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rockstar below.
Rockstar , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
“I knew I wanted to pursue music the first time I saw a Lil Wayne video when I was about nine or ten. Something about that moment, watching him perform, just lit a spark in me. From then on, I couldn’t stop writing songs; it became my whole world.

Rockstar , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
“For those who may not know me, my journey in music started from pure obsession. I wrote songs relentlessly as a kid, even when I was navigating a difficult time—transferring between high schools, facing expulsion—but music was always my anchor. After high school, I went to a music college, and that was a turning point. I released a song called ‘No Tissue,’ and suddenly, I won Artist of the Year and Rapper of the Year. I was in a music group, but when that broke apart, I kept going, eventually teaming up with what became the Grammy-nominated producers, Take A Daytrip. That collaboration helped me release my first big track and grow across the city. Even when they moved to LA and I was alone in New York, I stayed resilient. I had a rough patch—losing my relationship, falling into a depression—but I didn’t stop. I created The Payso Show, which got me noticed again. I went on to host Boiler Room, one of the biggest global parties, and even landed a commercial with Netflix. That all fueled me to return to music. Now, I’m signed to one of the biggest labels— Atlantic Records /10k Projects m—and I’m about to drop my first album with them. I’m most proud of never giving up, staying true to myself, and letting faith lead me. For anyone out there, my message is this: keep going, stay focused, don’t limit yourself, and trust that faith will guide you
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I was going through that tough time after the music group broke up and my collaborators moved to LA, I was left in New York feeling isolated. But even when I felt like giving up, I kept writing, kept performing for small crowds, and slowly that persistence brought new opportunities. So even when I was at my lowest, I held onto that belief, and eventually it paid
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
“A lesson I had to unlearn was how to avoid becoming codependent on others, situations, or even relationships. For most of my life, I was in a relationship and tied my worth to someone else. The hardest part was learning to stand on my own—to trust myself, to keep going, and to build my confidence internally. That independence gave me a foundation I never had before, and now I know I can thrive on my own.”
