We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lolo Seiteo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lolo, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Initially i didn’t even know I would enjoy baking, until I started trying out baked goods for family events and dinners. Always using cake box mix. One day I saw a video on how a custom cake was decorated. All the different tools used, both edible and not edible. That’s when I started watching YouTube videos on how to decorate custom cakes and it really captured my interest.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Well my name is Lolo Seiteo, founder and owner of Cakes by Lolo, soon to be rebranded as Butter and Bloom
Sweets LLC. I am at home, self taught baker/ cake decorator. I’m 29 years old and a proud mom of a beautiful 6 year old boy.
I am originally from Botswana, Africa. I am based in Broward County FL, I started baking and cake decorating back in 2017 and it all started a hobby, only baking for family dinners.
I started doing more research on how to bake cakes from scratch and like I said, I fell in love with everything about it. Baking became my happy place.
I offer custom cakes and treats for any occasion. Specializing in weddings and birthdays. Our cakes always add a special touch to events; we bring edible art to life. I love making the cakes a statement piece at any event. A combination of great flavors and beautiful designs.
I’m mostly proud of the growth I see in each order I put out. I look back on when I first started and I cringe sometimes, but mostly I really appreciate the learning journey this has been and will continue to be. I love how baking always challenges me, even when I think I know it all.
Cakes by Lolo (Butter and Bloom sweets LLC) is big on giving our customers what they want with the upmost care and kindness. Bringing their version of edible art to life. Praying over every order, my clients get a piece of faith filled goodness in every bite.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source for new clients has been social media and word of mouth.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My entire baking life has been built on resilience. Being someone who is an immigrant and had to wait on a lot of immigration paperwork to be finalized, working to make money and fund my business was out of the question. I have had to battle times where no orders were coming in and still had to sustain myself in some way. The Lord definitely blessed me with people that helped me when I was financially struggling. People that supported my business and that always kept me going. Having to constantly wake up, push out content and get creative when there wasn’t any orders to make content with. Having no finances to buy the necessary equipment to make the quality cakes I wanted create, all those hard days taught me resilience and patience.
