Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Savannah Stringer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Savannah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
I was always interested in the arts growing up. Whether it was painting, music, theater, baking or photography, I always enjoyed a chance to be creative. The first time I picked up a camera at 12 years old, I knew immediately that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, and I never really wavered from that. I loved how photography allowed me to connect with individuals on a personal level; like using different mediums in art, my subjects allow me to gain different perspectives and express unique ideas. I never saw myself doing anything else.
I was encouraged from a young age to be true to who I am and that instilled a lot of confidence in me. I believe this encouragement is what inspired me to go to school for photography and chase that dream. I gained so much experience from school, internships, and photojournalism conferences. Working with and learning from other creatives solidified that I wanted to own my own photography business one day. Once I graduated, I worked in real estate photography while I grew my own business, Capturing Splendor. Now I primarily focus on weddings and lifestyle sessions, and I could not be happier with the work I get to do. I absolutely love capturing people’s stories, making them feel beautiful, and preserving their memories to last a life time.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a Wedding and Lifestyle Portrait photographer and the owner of Capturing Splendor. I gravitated towards weddings because everyone’s love story is unique, and one of my greatest joys is giving people candid and authentic photos that represent their love. I like to have a phone call or a cup of coffee with the couple to chat about their relationship, their vision for their wedding, and what photos are most important to them. As much as I love that my clients trust me to capture their day beautifully, it is vital that I know what is important to them about their big day. I always see the photos as a collaboration between the client’s love story and my art as a photographer that results in beautiful, authentic photos.
I have a similar process for lifestyle photos. I love chatting beforehand so I can get to know my client well and make sure their vision come to life. Whether it is a relaxed in-home family session, or an in-action branding session, I want my clients to feel like they are on the cover of a magazine. My style is timeless, organic, but creative. There are so many talented and creative photographers out there, but to me the most important thing is making sure you’re not just photographing what something looks like, but capturing what it feels like.
In my business, I am most proud of having longstanding, returning clients. I feel honored to photograph a family’s milestones and that my clients continue to trust me with capturing their memories. One day I am photographing someone’s wedding, and it feels like the next day I am shooting their maternity photos, and then before I know it I’m capturing their child going into kindergarten. It is a rewarding and surreal feeling.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the thought process that other creatives in the industry are your competition. They aren’t. I think it is impossible for the photography market to be oversaturated; which I’m sure is a hot take. However, every photographer has a different approach to their artistry and a different story to tell. It is one reason I love this career so much.
Your clients choose you for a reason. They like your editing style, the way you photograph others, maybe the way you capture light or emotion; you are the only one who has lived your life, and can photograph from your perspective.
I love surrounding myself with other creatives. You can learn so much from others, and they can learn from you. My work really improved when I started collaborating and making friends with other photographers. It inspired me not just to create art for my job, but for myself as well.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have a couple of funny ones. Once I photographed a bookclub having a picnic out by the lake, and the girls were all in whimsical dresses and laughing and twirling around. It was seriously a creative’s dream! Everyone had a great time, and I drove home feeling like I was floating because I loved the photos I took. Only, when I got home I realized that while shooting by the lake, I had been bitten by a brown recluse spider. Yikes. An ER trip and a bunch of antibiotics later, I was home again and editing those photos. I still think it was worth it.
Another funny one was getting the flu, in the middle of June, right before a wedding on a beach resort. I booked an IV treatment the day before to make sure I had enough vitamins and fluid. My husband had to drive me to the wedding and help me carry everything. With a lot of tamiflu and strong-will, I managed to get through it. I think resilience is the right word because very little will stop me from capturing a wedding day.
